Hi Steve,
Thank you for the link to the jades very interesting..... I think it was follow the leader here.... It happens alot. I see it a lot with buyers having no clue as to what they are bidding on! 🤣
The buyer was I thinking in believing that the white jade buddha with scripture was, both old and imperial. It's not btw. It's a modern interpretation. Possibly Russian jade.
The rest of the jades were also 20th century. The statue was probably the oldest one at early 20th century.
Great result for the vendor btw. You could easily buy similar pieces for well under $3,000. I doubt that the Foo dogs are jade. They could be bowenite.
I can never find buyers like these people.... 😂
Mark
Hi Mark,
Oh, Wow! I hope they can afford such a mistake! Thanks for sharing your insight; I am clueless when it comes to jades.
The auction attracted quite a crowd. I followed it from the beginning because there was a 17th c. German silver tankerd I thought I might be able to get a deal on. Nope. It went for over $3,000 (including fees), so my antique silver tankerd is still out there somewhere, waiting for me to discover it...
If anyone loves high-end Edwardian furniture, this is the time to buy. Also, tall case clocks!
A client of mine asked me last year about this agate bowl. Nice stripes. It sold for $85,000 aud. The room was packed!
It had imperial markings with a old dealers sticker..... 😂
It was a fake one. With later engraved marks and a laser sticker! Worth about $500.

Steve, same for Victorian furniture, going cheap theses days, no body wants it. Rather by MCM or ikea.oh, by the way, you a very nice tea pot and mugs or I suppose should be called canteen.
Yes, there was a Victorian settee, one of those over-stuffed Rococo-revival with carved mahogany types, that went for under $150. Some Victorian-era furniture I really like, including Eastlake, but not the Rococo-revival; I don't find them very comfortable-looking.
An elderly friend of mine passed away a few years ago and he loved antiques. In his front hall he had a Victorian candelabra of bronze with ormolu, many hanging crystals and a base of marble - I'm sure you've seen the kind. It originally came from a funeral home in San Francisco & was supposed to go to a friend but he didn't want it and neither did the family so now it's in my dining area. I fitted it out with glass holders and votive candles. It's especially nice around Halloween!
@imperialfinegems Wait, so that sticker was new but made to look old, or was it an old one they took off something else and put on the newer bowl?
The label I believe is new and definitely not from the collection.
The imperial markings are done by modern tooling.
However, the agate bowl itself is very good quality.

Update: I grew worried when I watched Peter's video this week (the part where he warned about items on auction sites not included in the Bidamount selections as possibly being fake) because this lot wasn't featured on the Global Member Page selections so I submitted it for appraisal.
He said they looked authentic, that the left mug is from around 1840, the right mug c. 1870, and the pot c. 1810-1820. Seems like I overpaid by a couple hundred but oh, well, I will cherish the coffee pot!
Steve it is never an over payment if you like it. Next week it may be at par, the next it just might be a bargain.
Ron
@ronm That's very true, and what Peter told me!
Hi Everyone,
The coffee pot and mugs arrived safe and sound, very well packed. (Thank you, Cottone Auctions!)
As "perfect" as the coffee pot is (being a high quality Nanking pattern piece) you can see the problem with imitating silver service in porcelain has to do with the tricky firing process: note its slight lean to one side.* I'm happy for the splurge and am just beginning the process of cherishing it. Who knows? I might even use it once in a while, if I'm careful.
Cheers!
Steve
*For some reason I cannot upload photos any more. 🤔 Does anyone know what's going on?
I don't know what is going. I am guessing Mark will have told Peter and hopefully it will be fixed soon. I will be looking forward to seeing the photo when it is!
I have notified Peter.
Mark
Here is the photo I mean to post last week showing the leaning coffee pot:
I have a Canton vase about 15" high that leans as well. It had one of those 20th c. wax export stamps on the underside; I wonder if some of these "flawed" items were deemed impossible to sell yet were left in warehouses until it was decided to export them anyway.
