Hi John
I have this and you can decide for yourself if it is a genuine satumsa and or a Chinese copy. I think the quality speaks for itself, and all the same they are cute little pieces.
Hello, Short dong

Yes it does have the backmark but it is not 1930 and is more likley 1980 and chinese royal satsuma. These pieces do puzzle me so i was curious as to why you think your lidded vase is Japanese Satsuma.
My Jug which is very similar to your lidded vase is in my opinion not japanese and not antique and is more than likely royal satusma 1980 china. However i do see these sell for £100 or more. So they are desired for some reason or the buyers are mistaken. My jug also has a lid somewhere, with the gold handle.
These 'Royal chinese satsuma' are as much to japanese satsuma' as 'Macau' Famille Rose is to 'Canton' Famille Rose. Imo
You did link a satsuma website and i have read it and it is very very big site, can you maybe post an incerpt or photo of the relevant section that shows your lidded vase is in fact japanese satsuama please.
Dave, I had a pair of bottle vases that had the same marks or similar to your jug. They were definitely Chinese Satsuma, messily decorated and had a slightly bluish tone to the glaze.
The item I wanted to buy today wasn't marked. There was only one photo and as I only discovered it was on today, I didn't have time to research it but it is far better quality than most of this type. It only went for 250 euros! Add in commission and it was beyond me this time, especially as it would have been an all day trip to get it.
@julia It was superb quality in comparison, and 250 is reasonable. If i was more expert in that area then it is an item that could prove profitable to sell on from £300. However confirming the maker or artist would require some special expertise i just dont have.
Good, I appreciate you agree with me that these are Royal Satuma, they have some potential as they display quite well, but John seems determined that his lidded jar is a real satsuma.

Satsuma are generally earthenware, I had a passion for the earlier Kinkozan earthenware. There are 17th century Edo period in a simlar style called Kakiemon and they were so popular in the 18th century that German messin and english porcelain makers copied the design.
Here is a copy of from early 18th century France from a factory in Chantilly
I had a passion for the earlier Kinkozan earthenware but also like earlier Edo period pieces
18th Century..
19th Century I think.....
Hi Dave and others,
Some really nice pieces being posted here.
I only have one kinkozan piece. A gourd vase in the Chinese sang-de-boeue style. Circa 1885-1900.

By far my favorite Japanese piece is a splendid fukagawa vase with imperial notations/connections

Incredible, That is dramatic providence, i wonder is the same reverance given for imperial gifts as would be found in China. I guess Chinese imperial pieces has their own Kiln, I am not sure it is the same in Japan. Fukagawa was I guess the closest to an Imperial Kiln as it was contracted or used by the Japense Imperial Household but I wonder is that more like the Uk royal stamp than the chinese imperial kilns. I should read up on this.
It also looks like a very interesting vase.
I do like fukagawa and some of their 19th century Imari is really impressive. I have one of their 19th imari vases and it is really beautiful.
The gilt fukagawa marks on the base were reserved only for imperial use.
These are rare insofar that that do not appear on the market often. They are treasured by the family /descendents. Obviously they are faked and appear on platforms like eBay.
The only reason I bought it retail is that one I loved it. Secondly it's rarity and strong provenance.

I don’t know if you’re devices will let you in large .John
