Hello, To all
I bought this at a thrift shop sold as a Trojan horse it hand made i usely stay away from these
to hard to verify but this has some age to it and nice looking. Have found one tested to
early 19th century.
Here a site on your Tang figure springmeirer,John http://jeannedepompadour.blogspot.com/2013/06/chinese-figurines-and-statues-from.html
Sorry it didn’t post all my pictures here there the rest John
Hi Kaolin -
Thanks for posting the image and bringing this publication to my attention, much appreciated ...
I'll have to see if I can obtain a copy of this exhibition catalogue ...
Stuart
Hi John,
a nice colorful horse that looks rather modern to me. You say you have found another that was tested for early 19th century. Keep away from that, as far as I know there’s no test available for anything more recent than Ming. Also I don’t think these horses where copied before recent times.
Giovanni, you have rightly pointed out the wrong colors in the head of Springmeier‘s statues. Do you think the whole items are later or was just the head replaced or freshly painted?
Fakes abound on the field of these people and horse statues and I don’t really know something about these items. What are other members opinions to said items?
Birgit
Hello, Birgit
From what I have read they started copying in late 19th century . John
@ Springmeier, Giovanni and Birgit: Turquoise glaze DID exist in the Tang dynasty. Here's an earth spirit from Bonhams where it is noted in the description that: "Although turquoise glazes are used infrequently in other mingqi pieces dating from the Tang, the appearance on an earth spirit, as in the present example, is incredibly rare." https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20998/lot/8127/ Also the pinkish color is not necessarily incorrect. Here are some court musicicans with a grey/pinkish color that come close. (Note that this picture was originally copied from a Chinese site, so I can not guarentee they are not replica as I haven't found out what museum they are in but I belive they are ecxavated examples, but not 100% sure.)
Hallo all,
here's my last item I won at a local auction. It's a very nice little teapot of globular form with flower sprays in underglaze blue and overglaze red, green and gold. It dates from around 1720. So it's late Kangxi.
Chris
Looks a nice little teapot Chris , Any chance of close-ups of the painting and the base and foot? Just for research purposes.
Carl
Sure. Here are some close-ups.
You can also compare it to this pair that I found at the archive site of Alain Truong .

Dear Birgit and Corey,
I do not know for sure, by pictures it is difficult, but to me the whole statue is not convincing.
The head has been joined to the body, but that was a common practice, it is not enough to say that it is not original (in case the body is).
The colors seen in the head are to me inconsistent with objects of that time.
Can’t say about that spirit earth statue sold by Bonhams, where BTW they say that such glaze is extremely rare. (out of curiosity: how such big and exceptionally rare statue arrived in the West in these times? It is not mentioned provenances before only 8 years ago. How can such big and complicate thing be intact? Why it is mentioned a TL test and at the end they say that the TL test is not available? “A me la cosa puzza”, please translate if you wish😊
Dear Corey those musician figurines are clearly modern IMO.
Regards,
Giovanni
Hi!.....This is a recent thrift purchase......I have made a couple of other somewhat costly purchases, so I was supposed to be just window shopping only......but when I saw these Celadon looking lamps, I couldn't leave them.......they have a beautiful incised design all over them.....the design reminds me of those small Chinese Celadon planters that have the imitation cherry blossom plants & white rocks in them....the lamps have no marks....they are probably 20-21st century......but are really pretty......Im not sure if there are truly Chinese,....maybe Korean...or from Thailand etc.......If any one knows please feel free to leave a comment.......
This is also a thrift purchase ......the thrift store had some type of event about a month ago, in which their "collectables" were very pricey......luckily there was a 25% off of collectables......Im not sure if the mask is cherry or rose wood....it is very heavy....its very different from anything that I've seen so far ......its 15.5 in length x 9.5in width.......it looks like it could be a Chinese Emperor or Immortal but I'm not sure.......I would appreciate any information age etc.......Thanks!
Hi Alesia,
the vases are Chinese and modern and specially made to be lamps. I think there’s no value gained if you remove the lamp fittings but they make a nice pair of lamps.
Birgit
Hi Alesia - and welcome to this wonderful forum ...
I would concur with Birgit's comments on the vases - rather modern ...
I don't have the knowledge to comment on the wooden mask - hopefully others here will be able to help you with this ...
