Quite by accident, I found a mirror I liked. It was being sold by a woman who is registered at the Trocadero site. I emailed her about it and at first she was marginally cooperative. Then, after not hearing back with several questions I had, I emailed her again. She reacted like she had been attacked. I am a very reasonable and kind man by nature, but this Lilly Parker woman is a detriment to the Trocadero site and I advise anyone who comes across her online shop NOT to buy from her.
She's insulting, she's unkind, and she blurts out anything on her mind. Even after I agreed to buy the mirror she refused to shop around for the most efficient and inexpensive means of shipping to me in Massachusetts, and finally wrote me a vicious email telling me she refused to do business with me! In shock, I've searched the internet to find a place to warn other prospective buyers about her psychotic behavior. So please, be forewarned. Do not engage Lilly Parker:

in ANY way. She's vicious and mean-spirited.

In reference to your experience with Lilly Parker Antiques on the Trocadero site, I had the misfortune to have a similar experience with her.
I had never dealt with her before and politely enquired about a small item she had for sale, asking what would be the lowest price she would accept for it. I received a somewhat curt reply that the price was as advertised, and shipping would be extra. I declined her offer and she replied that she intended to ‘double the price’! …..basically charging $300 for an item with a real value of around $40. I replied with just two words: ‘Good luck’.
Just as in your experience responded as if she had been attacked! She told me that harassment was a crime and that she was blocking me from contacting her (something I really have no wish at all to do) and threatening to report me to the police! I can only assume that the woman is mentally ill.
I reported the matter to Trocadero, but as yet have received no reply.
is Trocadero a good place in other aspects? have not looked there. thanks!

I enjoyed looking at the catalogue, seems an extensive inventory with even hard to find replacement Japanese hardware, maybe they need a warning about set prices only, no dickering on prices, no tolerance for bargain shopping, beware of moody email, drive to the scenic horse country of Virginia for pickup and we will do you the courtesy of taking your money. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Sharon
Because of your post here I went browsing on Trocadero and found a vase I liked. It's being shipped from Arizona from the Petrie-Rogers Gallery. Thank you!
Thank you! It's basically the Canton pattern without the "cloud" trim. Not sure why they didn't put the buildings on the front. The back panel is left blank and has a red stamp on it - not sure what that is. An inventory or export stamp? It's 15" tall with a couple of chips but no cracks or drilled bottom.
I had already spent my monthly luxury allowance but made an exception. 🙂
@steve The blank side is interesting with the birds making a crisscross pattern and it would be nice if someone can explain the red stamps. You definitely have an aesthetic and it seems serendipitous that you found it. Sharon
Thank you, Sharon!
The arrangement of the birds is rather odd, isn't it? It reminds me of the Chi Rho symbol but obviously that wasn't the intent.
I've never seen the blue-white export pattern with pagodas and water in large, late 18th c. examples although I did find a small trumpet vase from that era. I've seen Kangxi-revival vases with landscapes from the late 19th c., but none of the Canton pattern until now.
Strangely enough, another example of transfer Canton pattern is available for today's tasteful decorator from Mottahedeh. The pattern is a more exact copy with higher quality production. And dishwasher safe, too! Of course, only the real thing will do for me. 😎

@steve Well that is pricey, I have a Mottahedeh cache pot (not Asian design), I am rather fond of but I'm fairly certain it is a factory second and it did not cost much cash in an antique shop, although it is not an antique. I also have a transferware souvenir plate by them of Westminster Abbey, it must have been from their low end wares. I saw on Etsy today where someone is trying to get 323.00 for the Macau plate like mine, good luck, as our poster wished Lily.
Just looked at the birds again, you are right, it does look like Chi Rho, maybe they are doves and it would be cool if it were made for a covert Christian. Sharon
P.S. Kaolin posted some museum pieces in reply to Ron's query about his plate, one has a red stamp similarly looking to the red stamps on your vase. Sharon

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink. Calligraphy established itself as one of the major Chinese art forms during the Han dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE), and for two millennia after, all educated men were expected to be proficient at it.
