I’ve not bought any Chinese porcelain for a while,I’ve fallen in love with Chelsea porcelain so purchased a few pieces.
Japanese porcelain is also such good value and I bought a few pieces at auction which arrived this week.

Tang sancai figure of an official I bought a few months ago. About 120cm high. More work has to be done to definitely authenticate it (maybe oxford TL)  but I've had good feedback from experts I have consulted.Â
Lark Mason from igavel thought it looked Ok and offered me to include it in one of their sale so you might see it at their auction soon.Â

Have just acquired this bowl, d. 19.2 cm, the central design and the exterior peonies and leafs reserved in white against a blue ground. Firing fault to central interior/base, fritting to mouth-rim, slight areas of glaze ware and painting of key-fret motif displays some unevenness.Â
The ‘oval-shaped’ peonies are contemporary to those seen on very large dishes and bowls dated to around 1500, so Hongzhi/early Zhengde period. However pieces with reserved designs of white on blue are comparatively rare, been much more expensive, and labour intensive, to manufacture in the private kilns. Such pieces may well have been special commissions, and produce in relatively small numbers.Â

I’ve continued to collect Chelsea and Derby 18th c porcelain and the occasional Japanese piece.
This is Chelsea red/brown anchor 1752-60’s. Â

I have serious reservation about your statue. What are those pink and turquoise colors on the hat of a statue that should be Tang? Those colors did not exist at that time.

Stuart, what a beautiful bowl. Â I like the charming distortion of these old Ming bowls. Apart from other features it is also a sign of authenticity. I wonder when the first artificially distorted fakes will appear.Â

Although not as high quality  as my stem bowl, it’s nice to have two examples from the same period which incorporate the reserved painting style technique to compare. The drawing of the motifs and application of the blue is somewhat less refined when compared to the stem bowl - but it has its own charm - and still quite a rare example of these types ...
I’am sure fakes of these types have been produced already - perhaps we just have not seen them yet ...!!!

Below is an image of similar from the Tominaga Collection exhibited in 2016 at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum in Saga, Japan. The Catalog "China as the inspiration for Japanese porcelain" is out of print and difficult to find.
