Hi, all. Anyone has dealt with eBay seller that refused to fulfill order simply because the closing price was not up to his expectation? Just happened to me. He even shamelessly left a feedback to me blatantly state that I should not even expect him to honor. eBay did nothing to help. Just try to see if it is actually ok for the seller to back off just because he does not want to. Thanks.
It happens. Go to your account profile, select feedback and it is there and only there u can leave feedback.
Thanks. Already left feedback. Apparently he did it at least once another time. Just don’t understand why he did not set a reserve price for a small fee or just begin with a higher price.
Yes, I had this done to me once. The lady refunded my money within an hour of the end of the auction. The reason she gave was that I hadn’t contacted her to arrange pick up quick enough!!!
The real reason, I suspect, is that either it hadn’t achieve the price she wanted or that someone had missed the auction, contacted her afterwards and offered a higher price. It was really bizarre!
I believe your only recourse is to leave negative feedback. If I remember correctly, after you’ve been refunded, you cannot open a case against them? It’s probably just as well, if eBay forced the seller to sell it at the auction price, it would probably arrive damaged in some way, just out of spite.
Be the better person and walk away. Take heart from the knowledge that you’re not lining the pockets of such a dishonourable individual.

Hello all:
I had no idea that the sort of thing John describes was even permissible let alone that it would be overlooked and even be excused by eBay. I agree that it's best to walk away. However, the party at fault here is not the seller, it is eBay. If sellers put up items for auction they need to accept that they might go for far less than they were expecting to get. That is the way auctions work unless a reserve price is set. Sellers never argue when an item sells for far more than it's worth. I have been in the position of putting in a maximum bid that was much higher than I expected to pay for an item and then have what I was certain were shill bidders pushing up the price.
If a buyer has won an auction legitimately then eBay should require or mandate that the seller send it to the buyer failing which eBay should ban the seller from the site. It is unfortunate though that eBay's only concern seems to be the bottom line. They seem very reluctant to take any measures against dishonest sellers.
I have become pretty disillusioned with eBay and the thousands of fake items that they knowingly allow to be auctioned. I have almost abandoned eBay now. My last 3-4 purchases were from a well-known Asian arts dealer in Boston and from a dealer I know personally in the Netherlands. I paid more probably than I might have paid on eBay for the same items at auction, but I had no concerns that the items might be fake and they arrived professionally boxed and in superb condition.

I think sellers put it as an auction item, with a low starting price, because they know it will attract more interest. Buy it now pieces will often languish on the site for months. People get more excited about a great item at a bargain price, but when the price climbs ever higher and the item ceases to be a bargain, they are emotionally and psychologically committed to the item and so they keep on bidding. This is the seller’s dream scenario!
Of course, sometimes, it doesn’t work out like this and all the bidders drop out before it gets to a good price. The seller that cancels the auction because it doesn’t work out like he/she was hoping is an out-and-out scoundrel of the highest order.

Dear All,
We just have to face the fact that Ebay is a very large Corporation. Like all very large Corporations in the modern world it's customer facing employees are under trained, under paid and have to follow strict scripted procedures. I am currently faced with this. A buyer requested cancellation of his purchase he said the purchase was for his girlfriend but she did not like it. I agreed to cancel. No payment was made the item was not sent. I tried to relist the item Ebay told me you can't relist until the purchaser confirms they have received a full refund. It also transpires that I will be charged for sellers fees if the purchaser dose not confirm the refund. Despite phone calls and on line chats with Ebays customer service the matter is unresolved. Madness !!!
Yes these company representatives are always pleasant. However, there is no nuance in these matters. Everything is either black or white. In the situation where I was dealing with the damaged painting every call ended with me being wished a nice day. I know this is part of the script, but it just makes the situation worse when one is really irritated over a stupid policy. eBay by and large works. However, the exceptions are very irritating.
