Hi all,
I bought this on ebay, it wasn't described as Asian but it looks like it has Japanese influence. The glaze is interesting, it has so many different colours and textures, although possibly something got stuck to it in the kiln as the sandy looking part is patchy.Â
It was in the French ceramics section so it could be a mid- 20th century Vallauris piece or maybe the seller thought it was. The shape is unusual; the only thing I found that was similar was a piece by Jean Marais - and an old wooden gunpowder container! When I searched for the glaze, Japanese pieces were the most similar.
I thought I would show it on here as people have such a wide range of knowledge and you never know, someone may be able to narrow down where it comes from.

I love that glaze!
Can't help you all that much, but gosh that is beautiful.
I'd look into Seto, maybe some of the Owari kilns, but anything that is ash glazed with such a bright paste, my first guess is Seto.Â
Kinda reminds me of those roman glass bottles when they dig them up, with a crazy patina and iridescence, but they didn't make pottery like this.

Thanks, Jeremy. Seto was one of the names that popped up frequently in my searches. I would be very happy if it were that. 😊 I will let you know if I find out for sure.

The glaze on your vase may be attempting to imitate/copy the ‘iron-rust’ type glazes development by the potters at the Imperial kilns during the Yongzheng period …Â

As for the tape holes, yes I believe this has been discussed before ...
I understand that some Song, Ming and Qing pieces were made in veneration of/coping archaic bronzes vessels including such holes ...
But I may be wrong, so I'll check my references to see what I can find ...
