Hey all, had a pretty decent haul from this week so far. Hope yours is going good!

Some highs, some lows but worth while all around. Here's a few highlights from the area I picked up this past week.

1st - miniature early 20th century vase - 1910~20. Broken with a poor repair job, thrift store find and sold for $1.50. Personal keeper for the first time find.

2nd - Mother of Pearl Black Lacquer Qall Panels - 2 Geisha pair, late 20th century. Great condition, Goodwill find and paid $40 for the pair.

3Rd - Mother of pearl black lacquer 22" wide, 24" tall, 12" deep chinoiserie cabinet. Late 20th century. Fun fact, I haven't come across this particular style with the side handles yet. I find others with paintings on the sides, but this is the first utilitarian style for hauling and loading (a godsend for moving this around). I'm also having great difficulty tracing a direct market value down for this piece, but its a good find from what I have seen listed around with one other web listing, ironically from new jersey... but thats it weirdly enough. Glass panel top as well but didn't take a photo with it on. Also the lock is missing its key, but still engaged. The left handle was disconnected at least allowing the cabinet to be open. Are these locks skeleton keyed (one key fits all) or should I cut and replace with a replacement copy? Minor wear around the body but seems worthwhile to restore it and fix this lock. Paid $130, Facebook market place.

I've bought something similar to the last piece.  Youre right, it is resin made to look like uncolored cinnabar (this doesnt exist; all of it is red) and/or ivory.  Some of them are quite elegant, but worth very little as they are mold and cast items.

Other materials could be made to look like this as well, but that is what I am seeing.

The small vase might be first half of the 20th century, but Ill let others weigh in.

@rahawkins yeah its like Julia stated when I posted in the other thread, it looks good from a distance but upclose it's pretty meh. It's It's once in a lifetime lesson with this color and resin in general at least.

@pbarski93 This was in a group lot that I won today.  So I was already thinking about the topic.  A part of me hopes I open the box and find out it is ceramic, but Im sure it is resin.

The other items from the lot, I suspect, are what will make up for it.

Screenshot 20230205 131250

It's very pretty.

I've got a Japanese Italian resin cast statue in front of me with similar coloring if not near exact. It's pretty much resin, but thats a better cast than most, usually a marble or alabaster composit resin material which brings out that tint of alabaster with these, plus the details look right instead of smudged or blobbed out. It's a decent grab too but yeah the value from the rest will carry that over. Market is just too saturated with resin unfortunately to get great returns from it as much.
