Greetings, We are new to the site and really enjoy the conversations going on on these forums. The other day my wife was out thrifting and came home with this dish. We love it for the traditional kintsugi repair job. To us, this looks like it may be a mid to late nineteenth century Japanese Imari dish made for the Chinese market. Someone loved it enough to have it repaired what may have been a while ago as the gold on the repair is quite worn. Are we right? And if so what would we call this form, is it a plum, a pear, we have not been able to find this shape. Also what's with the little hole in the "stem"? Thanks Andrew and Mimi
I think it is late 19th c. Imari made for the Japanese market. I think the handle is in the form of a stem, so turn your plate 180 degrees...
To me, the shape looks like a squash - the artist used gold in a fan form under the blue stem that kind of looks like the top of a squash, and the bottom curves in kind of like the bottom of a squash.
Now, the decoration is not oriented for the piece to be hung (although there appears to be a hole in the stem), but rather the plate lies flat on a table top, not unlike how a squash would lie in a field.
Or, I just like squash, and the piece looks nothing like it to anyone but me!

Firstly welcome to this great forum.
Your delightful dish is Japanese and made during the Meiji period 1868-1912.
I can't read the mark. Only the first two symbols meaning 'Great Japan or Great Nippon' . This was common during said period and was used also during the 20th century. Your calligraphy is right to left. During the Showa period 1926-1989 this changed to left to right.
Its beautifully decorated and has what looks the kintsugi gold repair. Making this dish unique.

The six-character base mark reads 'Da Ming Jia Jing Nian Zhi', which can be read as Great Ming Jiajing ordered/made in', an Imperial Chinese Imperial reign mark and one of the marks used/found on Japanese ceramics ...

I agree with all of the above, Meiji and high quality. I haven't seen this shape before, its rare. Some of the decoration is reminiscent of 18th century Imari, particularly the rocks. But these are more stylized. Nice find and the kintsugi repair is not very damaging to the value as I think you already know. If it were Chinese, of course, the repair would be more of a problem.
