Hey all,
I picked this up tonight, it has a couple auctionhouse stickers but they're non-identified. It has 17th century styling but I'm not too sure either.
It's 16.1 inches in diameter.
It's 4 inches tall.
Am I right or is it a different story behind this charger?
I would go with Spanish Faience pottery (Talavera?). Looks vintage instead of antique...
@lucky I'm siding with Brian on this so far. I've found similar designs in Delftware pieces stemming around floral fauna scenery. The sun shape encompassing the middle has direct matches with similar delftware items found around Google so far as well which helps solidify some confidence with this direction.
So far from what I can tell with Spanish Faience art and style, it's more Americana fashion and designs in the artwork applied.
The patina on the surface of the plate and back (pics are horrible but hoping the digital camera coming in will help out with this issue) helps with grounding it as an antique.
I appreciate ye showing me something new however! It's been rewarding thus far!

For me, to be this, as antique dish - I would expect glaze loss, especially on a top rim. And I am not talking about 17/18c dish here. Unless you got super lucky, and did managed to trace down 18c dish in perfect condition while diameter 16 inch..Possibility is there 🙂
And the label, could not be identify as auction house sticker..Because maybe this is a shop label, etc?
Auction house label's usually contains auction house name, lot number and date (not always). Not sure what else I can add. There is no intentions tu upset you in anyway - this is how I see this dish. I do hope so that this dish turns out to be 18c.
I agree with Lucky. It definitely isn't 18th c Delft /delft. The style is very much like Spanish - possibly French - majolica / faience and the label does look like a shop label. I also think it is vintage, rather than antique as tin-glazed wares suffer a lot of damage and fritting to the rim (also called fritware in parts of the world).
I like it a lot, but I hope you didn't pay too much. You may be able to work out the origin from the label, but on the other hand, it may have been exported before being sold.
I did found few examples at RM sold as 19c Spanish. Glaze typically has issues on such wares,. or better to say imperfections & glaze loss considered normal when selling/purchasing. Glaze always has pitting on the outside, more or less.
I did discarded this dish as Delft - there is no need to talk about 17c or 18c here as well...🙂
Yeah it wasn't much on payment, Goodwill prices so objects were pretty cheap at least. It's a good fooler but I went back and found a familiar piece in the same store which is a smaller dish but with a similar design structure.
The time period suggestion matches and makes more sense now too, I appreciate the examples and affirmation behind it!
So I'm definitely feeling more suggested with its range of being apart of Spanish, and 19th~early 20th century is definitely more in scope.
