Well, I headed out in the rain this afternoon to Michaan's to pick up my stuff and while there bought this little jar that didn't sell last Friday. I know Peter recommended it but I can't remember what he said about it. Michaan's isn't very good at photographing the foot rim so here are a couple more photos on top of the ones from the stie.
It's got that glossy, rich cobalt look of Kangxi but kind of reminds me of transitional. You can't tell from the photos, but it's slightly lobed. What do you think?

The pattern on the top comes from the typical kraak ware but the foot is not Ming (it's pretty smooth with few imperfections and no chatter marks) so I'm thinking it's closer to Kangxi. There are a few dark spots where the glaze is dull - not sure I've seen that on Kangxi. I tried to catch it in one photo (first). The body of the paste is bright and pure, like Kangxi.
Could it be a fake? Not what I want to be saying, but that the blurriness of that upper border around the mouth is very like the decoration on a pair of fake Yuan style meipings that I bought to make lamps but never did.
There are other things that don't seem correct for Kangxi like the odd stems of the flowers and the way the flowers appear. I am not familiar with the shape either but that could be my lack of knowledge.
It is very shiny, too. I just have reservations but maybe Stuart will look in and tell you it is OK. I would be happy to hear that and would learn something, too. 😊

The shape and main body ‘fish amongst lotus’ composition is a know type from the Ming Wanli period, as is the shoulder design …
However, I would concur with Julia @julia in that the overall drawing, cobalt tone and exterior mouthrim blurriness all appear slightly strange …
I will look through my library and database to see if I can find any comparisons and post …

I washed it thoroughly and took more photos (under a yellowish lamp - it's a dark and rainy day here but if the sun comes out I'll take some daylight photos with a proper camera). Scrutinizing it under a magnifying glass, I can see some random, tiny scratches but it's overall in very good condition. The seaweed and aquatic plants seem to imitate some Yuan prototypes(?). The glossy surface is marred by firing flaws here and there - I cropped one photo larger to try to show it. I took a photo of the interior best I could - there are flaws in there as well as well as very very feint blue-white rings or striation below the surface. The surface reminds me of the Kangxi pieces I have. I know they can fake the rim frits these days so one can never be too careful.
FWIW I remember Peter including it in his recommended page (I could be mistaken, of course) but it's been updated and not longer there. I'll poke around in that time machine site and see if I can uncover it.
