I believe the seller cut the picture's background on photoshop manually and not so neatly. This has resulted in the bowl looking funny.
When you zoom in around the bowl you can see that the cut is not clean. I am still waiting for the picture of base and I will post it.

So what do you reckon English or Chinese ?
I looked everywhere and compared many Qianlong and Lowestoft bowls and I still cannot make the distinction between the two. Having said that I am not an expert and do not know much about these export pieces / or english ceramic, many auction houses mix both styles and both bottoms look fairly similar to be honest. I hope someone could shed some light

Yours is a nice 18th c Qianlong Punchbowl.
Lowestoft is soft paste porcelain and the whole foot will be glazed, yours is unglazed.
Lowestoft is an unusual factory but a friend Beth Horton is an expert and avid collector. Factory dates 1757-1803.

Thanks for the picture of the base and I can see now that there is nothing odd about the foot. I hadn't thought it might be photo-shopped!
I still think the flowers look European, too. However, I will concede that if it is a Chinese bowl trying to look European they may well look that way?
I do have a question, Vic: is there never any exposed paste on a Lowestoft foot rim? I am not doubting you, I am just making sure I have understood because it is useful information and I did come across a base glazed like this one (ie the lower foot rim unglazed) claiming to be Lowestoft. Maybe they got that wrong?
I like 18th c English pieces, so I genuinely do want to learn.
Hi Julia,yes,sometimes the foot was casually glazed.
The flowers are painted in a European style,sometimes called ‘Deutscher Blumen’ after Meissen.
Colours also we’re copying European examples. It can be confusing.
Understanding 18th c English porcelain is very rewarding and I’m learning all the time.

Ground down foot,a characteristic of Chelsea.
A few images should not be there but I can’t remove them. One is a Meissen Cup circa 1745 and the other a Kangxi Dish.
Thanks, Vic. I was intrigued simply because I have seen Lowestoft bases like this, and of course as you say, the colours and style of the flowers are so European, too.

Just seen your second post. The Kangxi dish is the circular one with the flowers on the out sides ie last 2 pics and an earlier one, isn't it?
