so as for the cloths not being done in a quality manner as stated. I took close ups hairs finely painted on hand multiple shading layer fine brush strokes.
I hope you don't mind my butting in, Brian, but I have to say that I don't think the quality compares one bit. In the genuine examples, Wang Qi has an almost sketching quality to his art, the outlines are often watery and performed swiftly and lightly as though capturing a moment.
The surroundings have a more ethereal quality as though one is looking through mists of time which is accentuated by light and wispy colours. Note the hard edge of the grass area in your vase and see how different it is in the originals.
I also compared the child, the style of his hair is wrong; I felt the calligraphy on your vase had a lot more in common with that seen on later 20th c pieces in terms of the heavier looking ink; then there is the way the hair and beards are drawn, I find it very different on many of the genuine pieces.
Obviously, we are all entitled to our opinions and have our reasons for them. You may well be correct, that would be a wonderful find!
Please would you give me a link for the Christies vase. I would like to have a better look. Thanks. 😊
@julia I have decided to no longer comment on this vase. I didn’t get much sleep yesterday. I feel the piece is creating a stressful environment. But I do respect your opinion. I’m actually not going to be posting anymore items. It just seems that everything is consistently considered a forgery and I got into this to learn study and admire the art form not to feel bad every time I post a item.
There are a lot of forgeries out there Brian, as you know. None of us should approach this site fearful of raising issues on items they feel are not genuine. Most people agreed with your view, today, and it may help you to know that I don't like that Christies vase either, so maybe it is me who is wrong.
Posting pieces you like on here is like baring your soul to someone you are not sure even likes you: there is always the risk of rejection. It is hard, I have been there, too, and you have also been on the other end, telling others why the item they have found is wrong. This is how we all learn.
@julia you are right I have been there on the other side and I have never felt right. I’m going to change some things about how I approach things from now on. So every time it is a positive and not a negative. No hobby should be this intense. As for art it is simply an opinion we have to start training ourselves to not expect an art form to be skillfully executed and open our minds to more possibilities.
@lotusblack How intense your experience is with all this stuff is something you get to choose. But if this causes you more stress than enjoyment, then that's no good and I can see why you would be changing some things. I remember when I first came onto this forum getting offended a couple times at how harsh some feedback came across. But after awhile I just learned to roll with it, pick my battles consciously, and keep as open of a mind as possible. Now, when people get a bit insensitive with how they phrase things on here I tend to laugh it off, and chalk it up to people not having the greatest people skills. But ultimately, I think we all want each other to succeed. Mostly, I think you have to be okay with disagreement if you participate on these forums, otherwise it's going to cause you misery. You have to be able to admit when you're wrong and learn, and you have to be okay with feeling you are right and someone else is wrong also, and hopefully do that as gracefully as possible, even when others don't sometimes. At any rate, I learn from your posts so I hope you continue to participate, but only if it is something that you find beneficial to your own well being. Cheers! John
@julia I wasn’t offered by you I was offend how a member was implying I was selling fakes on EBay and the disrespect for my property. Was this your item?
I hope that you are not referring to me Brian,I’ve never looked at any item that you may have listed or sold on EBay or indeed said that you sell fakes.
If I were you I would put the Vase in a Cabinet for a while.
Vic
This type of Vase is ripe for EBay,eager buyers who couldn’t tell a piss from a shit are easy pickings for cynical sellers.
ViC
Since I sell on EBay and own this vase this was referred to me. Not all of us list on EBay to deceive. I have no problem selling this vase and listing as a 20th century vase. Not everyone in the world is as entitled.
@lotusblack Sorry but you need to improve your English comprehension, please read again.
You appear to take comments rather personally,I’m sorry if you think that I was calling you cynical,I was not.

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink.
