I did not go to law school until I was in my fifties. Law school is a right of passage, as many judges are fond of telling beginning lawyers, "you are going to find that law school has very little to do with the practice of the law." Even when you are older than said judge. Most judges treated me kindly or at least fairly, but a tiny few think they owe it to the robe to be iiritable jerks and supposedly that is why law school is the adversarial nightmare it often becomes, good times. Very sorry about the losses to your collection. I always look forward to all your responses to everyone, just as I always look forward to Todd's interesting finds.

Your words of wisdom sound similar that which my mentors offered. I had a few near full-ride offers for college mock-trial and moot court after high school, and when touring the schools I asked "Will I really enjoy this, or is it the sunk-cost fallacy speaking?" after having spent several years beforehand doing the whole state/national circuit.. Was extremely blessed to have had one of the Pol-Sci professors who ran their mock-trial program tell me very bluntly "if you're already asking yourself that, you don't want to. If you change your mind any point in your life, law school will still be there - your youth won't be."
He was (of course) very right about that.. May I ask what area of law you went into? Very neat to hear about your experience 😊
Also Todd routinely has me wondering if he has an underground bunker in his backyard with centuries of obscure rarities 🤣

@jrn Criminal defense is where it's at and where court is oddly so much more civil. I only practiced for eight years, did some family law first year, shudders, personal injury, bigger shudders, immigration is fun when you win, not so hot when you lose. You will soon know whether you like sick law school (rite of passage line from aviation law professor) and love the law. God help you if you do, you will have no choice but to stay and on the day after graduation, you will begin bar exam preparation. The upside is that with the bar exam you will have finally reached an even playing field.

Oh, Kinrande? I’m not sure either, seems like a possibility. I don’t see gold on the object, but maybe the term is used more broadly? Kinrande does seem to feature a lot of red. Maybe I’ll post the question to Peter in the comment section of the video...

After viewing the object again, I think you are almost surely right, JRN. I think he said Kinrande. And although I don’t see gold in the picture, my guess is that the style is obviously Kinrande to an expert viewing it and actual gold may not be required. Or maybe there is some gold, but not an extreme amount... I won’t bother Peter with the question. 😆

@watership check out the Ming covered ewer on the recently posted Art Institute of Chicago holdings on Bidamount under museums, you will see that red grid pattern on the cover, so that is a very old color scheme.
P.S. It is on the first page of Song to Ming holdings.
P.P.S. looked at it again, the description says Ming with later overpainting and bearing a Japanese Eiraku lid. Hope it helps after you wade through the postscripts.
Also, on this week's newsletter there is a Ming Swatow dish with the same pattern of iron oxide red circles surrounded by green outline and the same red grid pattern listed for 160.00 except the plate is centered with a dragon and the flaming pearl, the pattern of your bowl was popular.
