Hello, I am curious of the opinions of you fine people on this Armorial plate. I am usually fairly good at identifying family crests, at least to some degree but have made no real leeway on this piece. Besides just that aspect, I am more interested in thoughts on quality and period. The work and balance seems fairly fine to my less trained eye.

The surface as well as the gold rim look modern to me. I can’t say if it’s Chinese or European. If you can’t identify the crest it’s probably pure fancy.

The gold looks fairly recent to me, too, and the base. I also think it may be european. Does it ring when you tap it? There are a lot of armorial faience pieces.
@julia When tapping the outer area it is a pretty dull sound, when tapping the inner area there is more of a chimey tone.
It should ring on the outside if it is Chinese porcelain. I agree with Jeremy's views on age and origin, may not be Samson though.
@julia What is the best method for doing ringing tests? held in hand and flicked? laying naturally on a table and flicked? tapped with a spoon? on a stand and flicked or tapped?
I am always told you shouldn't tap China (just passing that advice on and covering myself), but it does help if you aren't sure. Just make certain it is sound and only use a finger nothing else. If it is cracked it won't work and you risk making the damage worse.
I balance it on my hand and gently flick with my nail. With some items it is enough to run your finger round the edge like on a glass.
The best thing is to learn how porcelain looks and feels, that cuts down reliance on tapping. Your foot rim's edge looked like earthenware which is why I asked.
