This is a very large jar I picked up this weekend. Converted to a lamp, it's been drilled, but it was one of those 'I have to have this' moments.
I think normally these gilt mirror black vessels have pretty typical designs, birds & flowers, Shou character, foo dogs, and occasionally a scene from Romance of the Western Chamber. Not really.my taste.
But, I have never seen one with such a vivid depiction of the story of Zhong Kui repaying his debt to Du Ping by marrying off his sister, Jia Mei, followed by a parade of ghosts.
I read this scene was often depicted in New Years gifts.

A quite unusual item. To me it has a late 19th century look which would also explain the somewhat but not terribly rubbed gold. Do you have a picture of the bottom? Was the lid drilled to make it a lamp?

I think 19th c too. But it is potted very much as I'd expect for Kangxi, but the design...seems too good to be that old. The Gilt on the cover is almost entirely wore off.
The foot ring is quite deep and the interior slip has a very Ming - like orange peel texture.
Both the lid and bottom have holes, the bottom it terribly large unfortunately.
I'm going to rewire the beautiful double socket French ormula fittings...it's a heck of a nice lamp.
I was thinking the same thing ...like langyao wares. But I see some variation on how the glaze meets the foot on kangxi examples sold on Christie's. But the design is nothing I've seen so far.
Either way, a well spent $50 I think!
