This jar measures 25cm (10") x 16cm (6")
It has a small repair/filled hole under.
I am quite sure that it is from the Ming period, but I would like to hear what you guys at the forum think of this one. Both good and bad things obviously.

Dear Adrian,
you have shown only a top and bottom view. Don't you think that it is not enough? How can we see the shape and the decoration?
BTW for what I see it is probably even not Chinese, it looks European but I will hold my opinion waiting for new pictures.

Dear Adrian, thank you. As suspected, not Ming and not Chinese. Shape, type of blue, decoration style, everything doesn't fit.
I do not know what it is because I have no knowledge on other types of ceramics.

Very strange vase. It looks as if some non-Chinese tried to copy Chinese style (especially the band round the foot). The hole in the bottom might derive from it once being a lamp. Maybe the vase was even made to be a lamp from the beginning. How did the seller describe it?

The neck looks like it was a lamp, too. Could that have been added later onto a jar? No, it must have been made that way but doesn't look quite natural.
The band around the foot is trying to be Yuan - maybe? The flowers have a bit of a persian look to them. Could it be Spanish or Portuguese? Maybe an oil jar?

It looks like someone made a jar..literally that is how it looks. However i wonder could it be Islamic or from the middle east, A Iran Safavid Persian. Persia often tried to imitate or copy Asian Porcelain.

This piece was listed at a small auctionhouse as Ming. I am no expert, more an antiquecollector, but i have seen and held a some porcelain.
My initial feeling was that it was of great age because of the decoration and the way it is glazed.
The idea of it being Persian is something i haven't really concidered.
Strange objects indeed.

This is a vietnamese/southeast asian jar copying Chinese style. It's old, equal to Ming period.

Your answer is the most like one and the decoration, glaze and bottom might suggest what is known as the early Le dynasty.
I have read about Vietnamese ceramic the last hour and learned a lot (well a lot compared to what i knew, which was close to nothing).

Ok, I officially withdraw my opinion that it was made with the intention to be a lamp... Is there anything you don't know, Xin? When I compare it now with the small Hoi An pieces I own I can see a similarity of glaze and painting style.
