Dear community ?
I have this plate, it was bought as a Ming plate some year ago, not specified under which reign.
It measures 20 cm in diameter.
A hairline and a small imperfection on one side of the edge (rim).
I am curious about the ago and overall thoughts on this piece.
I concider to try it on ebay without reserve, but it depends somewhat on the response here and also a bit on how my Mingbowl does.
Thanks
Best regards
Adrian
An unusual plate, dear Adrian. The rim seems to be made to European taste and looks like mid 18th century while the decoration and foot looks older. Late Ming, early Kangxi? Maybe someone knows more.
Birgit
Surely late Ming, Wanli.
A nice one and of good size, it is a pity that it is damaged.
Giovanni
Thanks for the replies.
I personally don't think that it was made for the Europeeans. It doesn't quite resembles what i most often would attribute Kraak-porcelain.
Kraak often (not always) has more complex decorations and the cobalt always seems much deeper than this. Perhaps especially on Kangxi wares. The firing "streches" (not sure of the term) seems to frequents more on my pieces attributed to Ming than Qing or later.
The decorations to me seems Chinese. I am not sure if it is lotusflower and a buddhist wheel.
Everything stated above is only my thoughts and if someone would correct me would i be very thankful.
This plate might be put up for action on Ebay with No reserve on wednesday. Based on what information i receive and what i learn till then.
Best of wishes
Adrian
PS: I apologize for my weird grammar at times, it is partly due to me being Norwegians and partly because of my new phone.
Dear Adrian,
not Kangxi, and not specific for the European market, although they too was imported into Europe.
You can list it as Wanli, or late Ming if you prefer. No problem.
Kind regards
Giovanni
Thanks you Giovanni.
It is never good to say, but what do you think it would fetch on Ebay?
Other guesses from members is appreciated as well ?
Adrian
Is the base unglazed ? And before selling I would clean the hairline.
kind regards
staartmees
Goede avond staartmees!
My dutch ends there, althoug I really like your name and the bird itself. It is called almost the same in norwegian "Stjertmeis". 🙂
Anyway, as far as the piece goes, is not glazed on the base, the glaze stops quite accurate at the base.
How should i clean the hairline (without doing any damage obv)?
Adrian
Adrian, let it sunk in cold water (ambient temperature, not warm water) with dish detergent of the modern type, that contain enzymes. Let it sunk through one night and if necessary another day and night. If you have a tooth cleaner jet, it helps a lot. In most cases the dirty disappear completely, in some cases not at all, it depends if the dirty is organic or not.
Giovanni
And the glaze will not take harm?
I do think i should be somewhat careful and read some more on the topic.
Thanks again Giovanni
Maybe watch this: It does not damage the glaze or porcelain, just organic materials.
Thank you sir
I found that somewhat nervewrecking to se that conservator take that big vase i that small sink.
He knows what he does obviously, but stille.
I will try that myself now.
Best regards
Adrian
Dear Adrian, do not be afraid at all. Glazes are extremely hard. When necessary, for example for removing old glues on restored pieces, you can let the piece under the action of a paint stripper for days with no problems.
Giovanni
It's a Wanli plate from ship wreck. The glaze lost gloss.

I do think that you are spot on (once again). It is somewhat less glossy that most other blue/White i have.
Thank you again sir
Adrian
