all i can say is that it has some different in the mark from the ones I have on file.
I have learn that marks don't always match the foot rim look good the painting look
well done so think late part of jiaqing but it very nice plate did you buy it.

Thank you for your input. It is nicely made but look to me the colors are not as bright as Jiaqing imperial plates and the bats in the central area are not well done. So, I suspect it may be a republic copy.

Its a nice looking plate, but (there is always a but) I think its a Republican plate or later, possibly much later.
The decorations are ok, but the enamels are not as fine as they should be, they should be very close in quality and color and technique of Qianlong work.

After this page, a few clicks further in are some Doaguang examples. Also good for comparison.
The bats also look rather clunky, the somewhat oddly styled central motif inside the bats looks a bit off also. Then the foot, very reminiscent of Republic or later work, it just looks shaped wrong for the period, but very typical of more modern pieces.
Just my two cents...based on MHO.

After rethinking about your plate marks some of the painting but I see you peter come to that conclusion
with me I like to think about a peace before I make comment on or buy a peace
A goof rule of thumb is always to go and fine legitimate known examples for comparison, with so much available on the web, happily that task is much easier.

hi charles and all, I like the plate a lot, I was just looking at similar Guangxu plates of similar decoration. Then checking with Soethbys current and past auctions of mark and period pieces, Guangxu. The mark tends to vary, quite a bit actually. I dont know how to pin down what a fake mark would look like though. The seller Qing-peirod on ebay is selling some M&P Guangxu right now, a few days left and I bid up a couple of the pieces to a couple grands and no sale, reserve not met. I guess I can understand that from checking sold prices at Soethby's. I decided not to try and go to NY for Asia week this year and save the money and just bid on good pieces from reputable dealers on the bay and elsewhere. Love the plate. I did not think it so new, still developing my talents:)
