This is a questing for ebay sellers who have shipped chinese antiques to china or hong kong. What is your experience? I've heard many stories about chinese buyers scamming sellers by replacing your authentic piece by a fake and returning it or falsely report the item as broken and ''not as described'' . In your experience, is it true?
I think it's such an anecdotal report. But I'm sure this can happen.

It's all about the feedback , I know buyers in China who have buying on ebay for years , who are totally reliable.
If the guy has few feedbacks on ebay , then that is a big red flag. When I was selling on ebay , in principle I would not ship to China , because you can't choose the buyer , and there are so many anecdotes about stuff going missing, getting 'broken', or buyers asking for full or partial refunds.
You could , I think , limit your buyers to those with 50 or more feedbacks , or something like, but the final bidder may not have read your T and Cs, so you would have to cancel the auction and relist.
tam
I would not simply limit dishonest buyers just to China and Hong Kong. It happens all over the world with items being sold on ebay.
Mark
Almost all the items that I have sold on ebay has gone to China.
I never had a problem, or unmotivated claims. It happened once that a bowl arrived broken and I have immediately sent a refund.
I had four or five cases of non paying bidders, all them with zero feedback.
I believe that most of the problems are due to the language.
My main problem in selling to Chinese buyers is to get the complete name and address in English (pinjin) AND in Chinese characters. Many times I have to request this repeatedly.
Giovanni
Hello
The biggest problem is finding a shipping company that manages the send the package carefully enough. Packing the goods properly with preferably two boxes and a ton of bubble plastic is a must. Have agreed to repay the money a cupel of time then it has been a very big job to get someone to take responsibility for the transport and pay me. Has ended in losing the money and keeping a broken object without value.
Mats
This happend just to me yesterday. What an accident! Ship to China, after 40 days whole vase arrived broken in 17 pieces. I will never ship big porcelains to China again.

Xin
Wow 17 pieces they must have thrown the box out of the van and up against a brick wall.
Was it insured or do you have to make amends to the buyer.
Mark
Sorry to hear about that dear Xin. I thouyght that you was living in China.
Dear Mark, the problem about insuring a parcel is that you have to declare the real value, which is not well accepted by the Chinese buyers because they have to pay import duties.
The only way is to provide a very safe box, something that you can drop the parcel on the floor with no problem.
Giovanni
It's complicated with insurance. Just like Giovanni said, import duties and so on. Better to provide a extrem safe box. I learned my lesson. I heard that the some customs open parcel to check but don't pack it again like before. It can also happen, that you get broken vase at the end. It depends.
I'm living in Germany. It will not happen in Europe. So good luck next time.

I hope you have much better luck in the future with packing. An expensive lesson.
Giovanni, Chinese buyers are not the only ones who do not like to pay extra in import duties. I don't like to pay extra and on most occasions convince the seller to lower the declared price otherwise I will bid accordingly. I don't know of anyone who likes to pay extra, do you?
Here in Australia ebay through paypal (as of 1st July) collect all duties due up to $1000 on behalf of the Tax office and thus have become a tax agent. Just bought a qing period jade scholars rock in the UK and was invoiced with the additional charge of 10%. ?
Mark
Dear Mark,
just to be clear if I have not been: I was not blaming the Chinese buyers, my meaning has been that in China they have to pay import duties, which is not the same for all Countries. For example, in USA they do not have to pay that.
Giovanni
Thanks for your reply Giovanni.
From memory I think you area a collector of snuff bottles. If that is so, in this weeks newsletter and video there is mention of items on offer from qingperiod. He also has a ming bowl for auction that has been mentioned on this forum.
If I am correct in my thinking I would appreciate your thoughts on said bottles he has on offer.
Regards
Mark
Dear Mark,
I had a look at those bottles. All them are correctly described, I mean that all them are antique, late 19th/ early 20th century.
I believe that, as usual with that seller, the final price will be over the real value. I found it strange that he set a reserve price for the teadust bottle.
For some strange reason he always reaches very high prices in his sales. Just to make an example, my last snuff bottles sale has been a lot of four nice bottles, two glass overlay, a small nephrite jade etc. The final price has been less than what I paid each single bottle. That’s ebay.
How do you know me about snuff bottles? From another Forum?
Yes I collect Chinese ceramics and snuff bottles, and I sell something once in a while on ebay.
Giovanni
hi everyone, I have not visited here in a while and the first post I looked at had a post from my good friend giovanni, one of my GB friends. giovanni, so good to hear from you in any way, I know you are a busy man. My friend giovanni is a very learned individual with specialized Song and Jin Jun glaze knowledge, as well as other periods. On topic shipping to China is fraught with difficulties and you either deal with the issues or dont ship there which may eliminate some of your business. Our biggest problems are waiting to clear customs and occasional nonpayment. I will try and visit more often and comment where and when I can. good day.
