Some say rust spots are a key in helping determine the age of Chinese porcelain. I have rust spots inside and out on a pomegranate form 13” vase, not Imperial quality. No two spots are alike, they are asymmetrical and are not painted on the vase. Could the vase still be recently made? It also looks like the vase was formed in two halves and joined in the middle.The foot looks like Kangxi Feet #50, 69 and 121 (Including the cut around the rim, but not brown) on this site. Is there another way rust spots are faked other than by painting?
Almost everything can be faked now. Could you show some pictures?

Have owned this for one year and have been unable to find a similar scene nor turned under rim. Porcelain is nice and white as can be seen in the lamp hole. And the vase is heavy. The lamp parts were 80-100 years old, which means nothing. The vase motifs go together well maybe to give to a new couple. Pomegranate (offspring/fertility), ginkgo tree (prosperity and longevity) and deer (Longevity). The rust spots have the volcano look in the middle, which a few web sites said should be. So, now it seems rust spots don’t matter. I’m new to this.

My amateur opinion...
I would say the form is not right, the blue colors are not the right shade. I’ve never seen deer like that on an old vase. Those antlers...the deer are so thin. The necks and heads are way too small. The glaze is too shiny. The foot doesn’t look right either. I believe its modern. Will have to wait for Giovanni, Stuart, or Birgit to confirm...

Fully agree with Birgit. It even seems not hand painted, unless more detailed pictures will prove the contrary.

Let’s determine whether hand painted if possible. What pictures would you like? The third photo here seems to show brush strokes on the ginkgo leaf and overlapping of paint on the left flower, first photo shows dots in the partial flower at the top of the buck’s neck. The scene on the other side does not have those dots. Many minor differences in the scenes on the opposite sides of the vase including number of lines in the same kind of flower, length of horns, etc. etc. Photo 2 only shows where blue has broken through the glaze and is rough to the touch. (If the photos arrive in that order.) My first thought when looking at the scene was Persian, I guess because of the look of the deer.

difficult to say for sure, the pictures are small, but it is probably hand painted. What is clear is that it is not Chinese. If Japanese or else, I don't know because I am not expert on other types of ware.
