So there is this dealer nearby who has a nice Kangxi style square vase in the window. Today I walked by the shop and since it was open I went inside to say hello. He wanted 700 kroner (app. $115) for the vase which sounds like a good price. A comparable vase sold at Christie's for $1000. Should I buy it?
Sorry, but I think I would want to see a picture of it first before I played any part in you spending money. ?
Peter made a video a few weeks ago on Republican porcelain and how to spot Ebay fakes , you should watch that first , I think it's on his Youtube page ''Peter Combs'' , it might be on this site too if you look . It will give you some info on enamels used shapes and footrims etc which will give you a start point .
If you are buying to sell on for profit and not completely sure you are taking a massive risk , If you are buying to collect i would advise you to either buy some books on republican pieces first to study of go for low price items .

I didn't have my smartphone with me. I'll see if I can take a picture next time I pass by. This must be the video from Peter. I've already watched that one. I think it's really good and also that it almost deserves an additional one on the topic.
I would like to read some books on republican porcelain. Simon Kwans book has been on my wish list for a while now, but also the others mentioned here would probably be a good investment.
I miss understood , I thought he was asking $1000 . Take a picture in the shop window at least so we can see.

I'll see if i can sneak by and take a picture in the window. The vase has a squarish neck part and the same kind of handles as the one at Christie's but is larger in size, I'd guess 40 - 45cm, so it would probably be a good buy, unless there is damage. I don't think I'll be able to sell it for $1000 though, the estimate would probably be around half that amount at a local auction. BTW I picked up a 20th ct. Kangxi style hexagonal famille verte vase made into a lamp with nice bronze mounts for 150 kroner ($25) and a Kangxi blue and white square vase also made into a lamp for 100 kroner ($15) in a fleamarket a couple of weeks ago. Together they should bring in 2000 kroner ($300).
Buying in a flea market is different to buying from a dealer. You’ll find many novices in a flea market who will make some mistakes. When buying from a dealer, you should always assume he knows exactly what he has. Not only that, but that he knows that others will think he doesn’t know what he has. If you take a chance and get lucky afterwards - great! But there’s every chance he’s playing dumb.
Thinking you know something he doesn’t know could be a mistake.

The dealer who has the vase is more like an all-round seller of antiques, mostly furnitures. He only has little Chinese stuff and mostly 20th ct. items of little value. Anyway $115 does not really present a risk. The people in the flea market are dealers too by the way.
115 bucks id just grab it, before someone else does. my gut feeling on items in the past have made and broke me. but for 115 are you really taking a lost? and if its nice and not period im sure on ebay you can get or come close to your money back.

IMO the two listed items are not from Yuan/Ming period.
The works are very sloppy. Painted with haste and no skills presented on works.
Therefore IMO these are modern fakes.

So, I've just picked up the vase from the shop and I'm now on my way home with it. It seems authentic and is fairly undamaged. The green color is paler than on the other examples I could find online so I wonder if it have faded over time but I don't think so. The owner of the shop says that it's 85 years old and that he bought it from an old lady. Right now I'm not really in the mood of showing it. I'll probably bring it to Bruun Rasmussen. Then I can always post a link to the auction if they agree in selling it. Hope this is all right.
