Hmmm... dear Xin I still think that it could be right. The pictures are blurry and the base is dirty. I believe that the shape too is correct although the pictures are not helping also under this point of view.
Anyway, I exclude that it is modern.

I didn’t buy it in the end. Thought it best to avoid a controversial piece. It went for £112 which, maybe, suggests either it wasn’t a very good piece or that lots of people had reservations?

It just shows how difficult identifying one of these can be from just pictures. Two experts with the depth of knowledge that Xin and Giovanni have, can even disagree. My guess is, if you put Xin and Giovanni in a room with said item, and they were able to handle it, they would come to agreement. Todd

NicDan, I can recommend looking at Chinese fakes on eBay, to learn what the fake feet look like (among other things).
The one on the vase you posted, is very similar to this one (which is a fake).

it is totally different instead. The paste is not the same, the shape is not the same. I am convinced that pictures are playing a big role in this case. Better pictures of that vase, and a cleaning, will show it different.
The foot of the vase that you have shown is thicker and even. The first one has a vertical cut inside and slanted outside, and it has the typical bumps (like chips) that are seen on these vases of the 19th C.
Again, I believe that it is early 19th century.

you are absolutely correct, all what you said is true, but I continue having doubts because of the blurred pictures. There is some sort of flare in the pictures that cancel the details.
I am adding here a detail of a Kangxi langyao vase that I have, where we can see that the surface of the glaze is very bright and there is no orange peel, as you said. But I suspect that the many pits due to exploded bubbles that we see on my vase may look as orange peel if not in focus.
Sometimes pictures can deceive a lot.

I tend to agree with Xin , the whole vase has a 'dirty' appearance , not on the surface but in the glaze and on the base, and where the glaze overuns have been cut. I don't think the base and footrim would clean up white (like Giovanni's piece). The foot is also badly prepared and cut. I would lean towards modern rather than old.

I'm sorry for arriving so late at the table - for some reason I just seem to have missed this discussion until now. When I looked at the original pictures I felt there was something off about the foot. I think it's painted in such a way as to make it look old, in order deliberately to deceive. I agree with Xin: it's recent. Fascinating exchange, by the way.
