Dear all,
last Sunday I had a big vase on sale. The winning bidder has been someone with zero feedback.
This morning I had a message from ebay, saying that it has been a not authorized bidding, i.e someone placed a false bid.
Because of that, what did ebay? They cancelled the listing totally!! I can't access anymore to the listing, meaning that I can't offer the vase to the second high bidder. I can't see who has been the other bidders, nor how much did they offer. The only thing that I can do is re-list it from the beginning.
Now, are them stupid or what?
Incredible.
Regards (to you, not to ebay)
Giovanni
That’s really annoying, dear Giovanni. But maybe it’s better to relist the item. In my limited experience as an Ebay seller nothing ever came out of the offer to the second bidder. Maybe because people who are outbid immediately turn to another item and are no longer interested.
Birgit
Sorry to here this good luck to you, John
That is very annoying! Why do they not consult with the seller first about how to proceed?
Have you thought about not permitting bids from people with zero feedback?
What’s the point of removing the listing entirely?
That’s bizarre!
Maybe they’re afraid that sellers who go on to offer the item to the second highest bidder will cut a deal outside of eBay, meaning eBay won’t get their percentage?
Nic
Dear Birgit, you are right that the second high bidder rarely is answering.
But it is also true that re-listing an item is a kind of suicide. Ebay's oddities.
Dear Julia, I should do that, but it sounds a bit unease to honest bidders with zero feedback, although they are only a few.
Giovanni
Hi Giovanni,
I have not seen anything like this before.I had your vase in my watch list, just checked for it and yes indeed it has disappeared!
Have to admit, when I saw winning bidder with 0 feedback I thought you would be lucky to get paid.
Very nice quality vase, have no doubt it will sell well if you relist.
Regards,
Peter
Thank you dear Peter.
Luckily I did remember the ID of the second and third bidders and I have sent a message, but as said before generally it is useless.
I will wait some time before relisting it, for the reason said before.
BTW that ebay's attitude is completely not understandable. As correctly said by Julia, they should have contacted the seller before.
Giovanni
Dear Giovanni -
I'am very sorry to hear all the trouble this has caused you - what a 'strange policy' ...!!
Fingers crossed your message forwarded to the 2nd/3rd bidders prove successful ...
Stuart
Giovanni,
Very strange wonder how Ebay decide what an unauthorised bid is. Somebody hacking ? I recently had a buyer wanting to cancel I agreed it took 3 weeks to sort out with Ebay they were insisting I still had to pay the fee on the sale. We are talking a $25.00 sale so the amount was very small it was more the principal from my point. As far as zero feedback is concerned I think you need to look at how long they have been a member, new members will never get any feedback if everybody bans no feedback. Anyway in the last month I have sold six items, so far only one buyer has bothered to give feedback.
Michael
Dear Julia, I should do that, but it sounds a bit unease to honest bidders with zero feedback, although they are only a few.
Giovanni
I agree, it doesn't make me feel good especially as if we all did that, all the time, no one would get off the zero feedback level! I only use it occasionally and of course, it isn't fool proof anyway. ?
As someone who buys on eBay but very rarely sells, I would not think it unreasonable for you guys to prevent buyers with zero feedback from bidding, especially on high-value items. It is relatively easy and straightforward to build up a feedback profile, there are millions of everyday, inexpensive things we can buy to build a feedback score before bidding on ‘luxury’ items. It is not so different to building a credit score? It can be achieved over a relatively short period of time? I buy a lot on eBay, mostly everyday things that save me from having to spend my free time hunting around in shops for fairly mundane things, like household essentials.
Maybe newbies get a bit carried away, they like what they see and put in an impetuous bid. When they get the “You need to pay” notification reality sets in?! Equally, it could just be a spammer or time waster.
As Julia points out, it is still no guarantee that there will be no problem buyers, but it may cut down on the regularity of disappointment?
I think it’s OK if sellers of high-value, high-quality items expect a little more from buyers.
Nic
Dear Nic,
in fact in my listings I ask bidders with zero feedback to kindly contact me before bidding. Do you know how many did it up to now? Nobody, never, they just bid.
Regards
Giovanni
Dear Giovanni,
I cannot say I’m surprised. In our store, we have signs everywhere asking people to not eat or drink inside, but we still find people wandering around with a Starbucks! I also have a notice pinned on our Facebook page asking people to telephone instead of making enquiries via private message because we cannot access their messages until the problem is resolved. They still send private messages and are then angry that we haven’t responded.
It’s incredible!
Nic
