I am not a fan of ashtrays, but I can’t leave things like this in the shop for a dollar or two. This one has a translucent center, which I thought was interesting. Something to check for in the future, I didn’t know it was a “thing”. I guess this is 1st half 20th? Todd

Almost like a lithophane of a geisha on dragonware, except if just highlights the blue floral design in the center. Nice touch. Sharon
@watership Dear Todd Searched a ton of Japanese ceramics and just found another one.
Sorry no mor discription then "japanese Bowl" ...but while browsing all this japanese ceramics ,i had my thougts on this
Chinese Porcelaine collecting an dealing with all its fakes an copies, i think Japanes ceramics are more honest.
Maybee thats one reason why the prices for japan ware are going up.
What i personaly dont like on Japanese ware, are the footrims , they are often to thick havy and clumsy.

Thanks so much. That does indeed look like a comparable object. Agree on both your points. Chinese foots are more refined in general. I feel fortunate to have Japanese porcelain as my starting point a few years ago. There are definitely less fakes, and the modern objects that are portraying older ones are much easier to identify (than Chinese). Although there is less money to be made, the frustration factor is far less I think.

The Japanese market is certainly starting to make a positive U turn. Which is encouraging.
Still aways to go........ great time to start buying quality pieces with a view to hold for say five years.

@watership I am still not shure what this kinda of dish is used for. but i guess basicly its a Rice bowl the 4 gaps in the corner could hold some chopsticks just try if you have some at hand just place them diagonal over the bowl et voilaz .it should look great and its practical.
There was a similar one in a different thread. Maybe it was just considered stylish? I will see if I can find it.
The indented corners aren't as pronounced as yours, but it is similar?

Yes, chopsticks! I am surprised there are not more of these bowls, it works quite well. (I modified the placement of the chopsticks. Diagonally, one would rest partly on the other, a bit unstable).
