I don't know everything so I always ask the most expert person or publication available to me. These days people are using AI to answer questions.
I've recently determine which AI is useless and which is only almost useless. Google is in the useless class, unless you want a tomato sauce recipe or something mundane.
Even the world's best AI is really just like an early high school student who can speed read and make assumptions and jump to conclusions equally fast.
I've always been at the forefront of computers and ran a multi-million dollar system for IBM before I could legally drive a car so I have some background there. AI isn't a new thing, it's just an old thing conveniently packaged for the ignorant labelled with a brand new buzzword.
I've been putting the best to the test even in a language foreign to me and have been amused by the assumptions, conclusion jumping, and general ignorance of it in general. Sure there are some things where it is almost right and it is getting to learn the simple stuff but it is like getting a bunch of average minds into a room and hunting for an answer. It will come up with an average poor answer in record time, but it is not at all reliable. I don't even use google search anymore because it isn't a search engine, it's a solution looking for a problem The Problem it is looking for is 'how to sell you stuff'. As I'm sure most of you are aware, it fails dismally on that front and has just become a source of irrelevant frustration.
While some of my experiences with other AI have been rewarding in a small way, I wouldn't even know if it was useful unless I had more knowledge than the AI system, which is always limited by the minds creating it.
In some scientific areas it is good at creating a million guesses in a narrow field but at the end of the day it's only a guess and it requires a human to sort the wheat from the chaff.
I can't say I've learned much from any of it except as a glorified library card system which might occasionally point me in a direction I have not yet looked. Of course i would have sooner or later but it really is a lazy man's reader.
I'm also a bit perturbed that I have to use so much effort leading it by the nose and that I require my unique skill-set to gain actual useful information even when I get to a destination. Increasingly information is being dumbed down especially by auction houses for instance even Peter laments certain probably scammy sites dumbing down their auction listings by reducing access to photos to prevent potential buyers making rational decisions or learning along the way. They only give the general buyer a low resolution image, like an actually useful picture is some sort of secret you are unworthy of. Museums too only provide minimal reference for their exhibits, when was the last time you attended one and were able to see the bottom of a piece of porcelain proudly displayed as blah blah. It's easy to incorporate photographs in a display.One would think it is often fake by the way they hide their bottoms like 18th century spinsters.
So my conclusion is that for the moment, for the general population, AI is just another facet of dumbing you down to scam you, don't rely on it. Next time you go to a museum complain loudly that they give you a curated view of their exhibits, both in person and online. I don't think that was the aim of museums in the first place. In this day and age they could, like auction houses, do much better.
At least for the moment my education enables me to get much more information from them than they would like but I'll have to keep that to myself. Governments are all on board with the dumbdown and don't like their Titanic rocked.
