Over the last few years we've blogged and done video's on a number of auction houses in the Marietta-Roswell area of Georgia. Well first it was Eden Auctioneers, then Lauren Auctioneers, then Roswell Auctioneers and now it's BIDIT Auctioneers. They are all within a few miles of each other..amazing.
Here's a link to the most recent post on the NEWBIE..

Imperial Chinese porcelain just seems drawn to Roswell GA. The same way alien flying saucers are drawn to Roswell NM.
Makes you wonder what might be happening in other Roswells across the nation... 😉
Kinda like finding numerous pizza parlours in old Italian neighbourhoods, except they sell really good authentic pizzas I guess..
Peter
It's really astonishing how you can have four so-called dealers primarily all dealing with fakes operating in such close proximity of each other.
I wonder if that's a coincidence or other. 🤔
Mark
Its all very comical almost, very curious about the State Of Georgia's auction licensing authorities and just how they go about handing them out. I have had a license here in Massachusetts for decades. You have to get Bonded, pass a test, get letters of recommendations from reputable auctioneers in the state who can testify to your honesty and on and on..
Peter
As an opinion and opinion only
Ironically our one of Governor's executive cabinet members is the Chairman of the Ethics Committee where these often pop up.
He's apparently been rather "lax" on any enforcement as this area continues to shift city boundaries and zoning in the name of "development", or so that's only what I hear..
I have 3 different cities to list as a possibility for 1 zip-code depending on if it's for my bank, utilities, postage, ect..
One or two decent auction houses here who focus on Antebellum/Victorian & Decorative more than anything - and they've had the most authentic pieces to pop up out of every 100 or so of their non-related lots usually thrown in as decorative accents; whereas the odds of getting anything legitimate from the ones featured in this forum focused exclusively on "asian arts" as their market is less than that.
If you guys want to get authentic Chinese items where I live, you have to go into an auction house with the intention of getting a Rococo Revival and you may come out with a Republic Rouleau added in as an "accessory" last minute 😆
(Ironically some great estates for real finds here; you could walk from that neighborhood and along the river to my place and probably fill up an entire shelve's worth of certified Asian antiques in no time at all)
Really hurts some of the guys I've talked to who try to run a good and honest show down here - absolute shame as this city continues to grow to be one of the most populated in the East Coast, with a lot of buyers relocating for work from out west and even abroad, ect..
-JRN
My first trip to U.S. will in that area, 100% will find the piece of a lifetime ! I can already imagine what i will do with all that money :))

I have still not become brave enough to buy something from the internet, but after having spent a great deal of time perusing the offerings, I have decided to never buy anything that ships from Georgia, Staten Island or China. The sheer volume from Georgia and Staten Island (such a tiny island too) is staggering and we know that nothing really old comes out of China unless it is so common as to have no cultural value. The jury is still out on what I have seen on Hong Kong, which brings me to a question, now that Hong Kong is under China, does that law apply to what can be shipped from Hong Kong?
@jrn If and when I do get brave enough, I will ask you first, although since I am such a skin flint, it is also unlikely that I will be buying from reputable Georgia dealers. I will have to hope for the return of safe estate sales without drenching self in antibacterial spray. For the most part, the things on Etsy that cross the line is in description only. The prices are fine for new items from Staten Island and China, they are just obviously not old and should not be so described.
@sharonp
HA! Would be happy to offer you a handful of extremely niche Japanese products with little-to-no market value, and clear mid-century Famille Rose confusingly assumed by me to be early 20th Republic 😉
I am working on and off with a few places down here with good potential, making sure to source only authentic offerings and "step up" the level of vetting and reaching out externally for authentication if listing as a certain period or such.
Hoping in some time Atlanta will be known to have a few hidden gems of integrity and quality rather than the current stigma of guardians of Imperial 21st Century imports from the Ali-Baba or Eb-ay Periods 🤣

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink.
