I bought this charger a month ago and had it shipped 150 miles away. I received it today broken in 10 pieces because it had been shipped between two flat cardboard pieces tapped together. What a shame, this charger was spotless like you rarely see one. Not one tiny nick or chip.
Please, if you buy something outside ebay always ask to see photos of the box before he sends it. You'll never guess what people have in their mind when you tell them to pack it carefully.

This always gets me so upset and angry because you were looking forward to receiving it.
There are some very talented sellers that package with such exquisite skill and style. Then every now and then you get these. I have a box full of broken porcelain. I have a theory about this after seeing an item i bought had been already sold by another seller to another buyer before it got to me...and with so much movement of porcelain through the postal system, i then summarised that we will see a huge shift upwards in price.
I calculate that we lose 15% of all porcelain antiques in the postage system. At his rate, the value should quadruple in 20 years and with online sales increasingly being the means of purchase and sales, it will eventually reduce the Antique porcelain market by 45%.
Good thinking Short, generally speaking perfect condition pieces are the safest investment. As time goes on, more and more pieces will become damaged, making perfect pieces progressively rarer. The online nature of so many transaction these days will only accelerate this as you say.
This being said, with technology more pieces are being discovered and finding their end buyer which will take the most care with them. Lets just say I think we are past the days of people drilling imperial vases through the mark for lamps, at least for the most part ?
You can ship fragile porcelain safely across the world. Many people do not know what a package goes through in the postal system. If you ask for photos of the box to see how it has been packed you can stop it before it is shipped. For ebay it isn't a problem because you'll be refunded if it arrives damaged but anywhere else you'll likely loose your money.
1. For small items or very valuable ones it should always be shipped in a solid box (it is easy and cheap to make a custom plywood box )
2. For everything else: use a double wall box and use 6 inches of padding (bubble wrap, newspaper, foam...) for every side.
What a shame! That was a lovely plate.
I had a different story. Customer from Switzerland bought a metal figure on a marble base from me. I packed it ultra carefully, at the end there was a box in the box with lots of bubble wrap and internal support to hold the whole thing together secured from any shocks. What happened then is that the Swiss customs opened the box to inspect it (like they couldn't x-ray it and see exactly what's inside!) and they didn't bother to pack it again the way I did. Result was the item arrived to my customer totally wracked and the Swiss customs denied the responsibility at first, then they changed the song and finally after weeks of sending letters they agreed to pay the compensation. Switzerland, who would have thought they are so clumsy...
Short Dong, hope you are wrong, but unfortunately your predictions are very sensible...
