The ruby back from Peter's video was a mandarin duck pattern, went back to check. Do you mean that you ran it by Peter first before buying or that it was on the auction pages?
My first thought was that the border was too narrow which left too much white showing, which leaves the overall picture somehow lacking. But I do love the boy's interest in the lady. Beautifully painted and of course interest in Republican wares are booming.
Living in Brussels in the 1970s, there was a dealer in Paris who bought anything marked republican. I thought he was crazy. Which tells you how much I know.

@musicnusÂ
Hi David.
Could this be more possibly a Republican ? I did noticed that the shading is quickly drawn and not as detailed.
What I am more worried about is this becomes the modern fake. The back looks a bit too clean for me though but as I thought it was recommended (posted on global member page) I would have thought it would have passed Peters team eagle eyes...

Hi Brian
Â
thanks for the comment. do you think that this is at least 50 year old ?
A republican period piece or modern one.Â
thanks
AlexÂ
Hello guys
Â
here are more detailed pictures.
Thanks
AlexÂ

Â
@superox can we get a close up of the foot? Â In sunlight if you can. Â I agree with Brian to a degree about the enamels. But to be honest there is such a variance in quality of these wares, I could see one without proper shading and layout slipping by.Â

- @superox I’m leaning to the republic period but a closeup of the famille rose flower would help. Why I think republic is this style was pretty popular during this period. They were so good even Bonhams has miss labeled republic period as Yongzheng. The Christie’s auction is flushing these out so a republic period piece will bring higher dollars someone thinking they are getting a Yongzheng plate When we see $50000 Christie’s plate the strike of gold makes us more biased than normal. This is just my opinion. I did see a ruby red background on a modern plate recently it’s was more washed down if that makes since. One other thing if I don’t see Yongzheng red on flowers it’s not Yongzheng to me.
This is the Yongzheng red/ pink enamel I’m talking about.
Â
Hi Brian. as long as what i paid for is justified (its always relative but you know not paying 1,200 euro for something that was made 4 months ago).
I totally understand your precaution regarding "flashing light" in the auction world. My gut feel is also republican as i did notice the roughness of the finishes. When you mention republican, I hope its not 1949 (PROC) because it could be close to a modern plate.
Thanks
Alex
Â
Hi Brian.
The plate has more of a gold colour flower than Yongzheng red.
Would this confirm an exclusion of Yongzheng and towards Republican ?
Â
Yeah, it looked like there has been copying done through out the century. It is the modern fakers we need to avoid...
hope the pictures will reveal more...
AlexÂ
@superox I think you are getting the information from the market if this was Yongzheng it would have sold for more I don’t believe these piece get missed or skipped. The rate you paid is in line with the republic past auction results. I don’t believe in PROC is republic or republic is PROC. If it was modern I believe the copier would have been very tempted to put a mark on it. Im not an expert so it’s only an assessment Jeremy is also correct there are variations in enamels. At the end of the day pieces need to be handled and researched.Â
Â
Hi Brian.
This is a sample of a 20th century famille rose. Though I am in no way saying my item is worth x100 than what i purchased but from a study point of view. I noticed the blackshoes which and that more free and less detailed enamel work.
the only thing is that this sotheby back colour is more ruby while mine seems to be redder..
let me know what you think...as welll as the rest of the group.
