Hello all! Always pays to get to the flea market early, even during poor weather conditions. (Raining sideways this morning!) A fellow cleaned out a house (bought everything one time), and apparently wound up with a handful of vintage Rolex watches, so he started bringing the rest of the household and is practically giving the stuff away. Sunday is the last load (Will be there early with my maglite!) Got these tables, large ceramic lions, ceramic stand, wood panels and 2 Vietnamese lacquer works for 100.00. The tables are really sweet, the black one (22”L x14”W x6”H)although smaller is 3x the weight. The redish brown table (24”Lx18”Wx10”H) is about the lightest piece of wood ive ever picked up. Both in excellent shape. Anyone know what that wood might be- and time period of make?

Perhaps it may help members answer your questions if you photograph each item individually and post them one at a time. To my eye none of the wooden laqure items look Chinese in construction. All could be Cochin - Vietnamese. The wood panels in your first photo look interesting and could have some value depends if they are inlaid with Mother of Pearl, and the quantity of the workmanship. Anyway for $100.00 for the lot it seems a good bulk buy. Good luck with your return visit.

The tables i believe are pretty standard shaped / constructed Kang Tables, a simple google search will bring up many examples to compare. The household is a mix of Chinese and Vietnamese decor/furnishings, so will be an interesting Sunday! K
Now examining the tables in front of me, they could be Korean. Ah yes the wood panels are quite nice as well, incredible amount of inlay and so well done. My favorite is the Pagoda painting, no idea who the artist was as of yet, but it is really a fine work! K
I have seen a lot of similar wood panels and trays (mentioned by Michael) inlaid with mother of pearl at auctions recently, described as vietnamese. A group like this (am estimating the size) seems to achieve for a couple of hundred euros. The decoration on these does look slight different, though.
The black table reminds me of a chinese box I posted here. It still had its label which dated it to about 1960. I will have to check that and of course a similarity may mean nothing and it could be copying something earlier. It is a heavy item compared to other wooden things I own.

Indeed, we are fortunate to have a fantastic flea market (actually called “the swap meet”) here in Honolulu, and an endless supply of old households being liquidated/donated/thrown to the curb! The Swap Meet is the only of its kind for the Hawaiian Islands. the main hub of import of course has always been Honolulu- Oahu being -“the gathering place”- the most populated Island. We had Gumps, amongst other importers -sending ship loads of goods from Asia for half a century.
You should see the other unrelated things i come across! I used to fill my pickup truck every weekend! Ive scaled it down to only the best things i find... lol
I also really like the pagoda painting. Let us know if you learn more about who the artist is.

Would like to see detailed photos of the shell inlaid panels. Close ups of the details birds etc. If they are well done in MOP and Abolony shell as I suspect they could be valuable the timber used in the panels based on the grain I can see looks like a good quality rosewood would be nice to see the backs of the panels as well.

Something on the stand reminded me of Vietnamese vases "Vintage Dona" that I have seen. But it may just be an impression ...
