This is getting a little confusing. Huey is the prospective buyer apparently. George kindly did that wonderful translation and has nothing else to do with the moon flask.
I would agree with you though on this. George's elegant translation is too good for this moon flask. I also thinks it looks far more 2015 than 1955. However, Huey indicates that he knows the owner and that the owner has had it for 20 years and kept it wrapped. If that is true then based on the 60-year cycle, the flask must date from 1955. So this all depends on the extent to which Huey can actually verify the 20-year ownership and that it was kept wrapped all that time.

I’m pretty sure Julia was only talking to George in the 1st, one-sentence paragraph. 2nd paragraph just gives her opinion on the piece...not talking to George there.
(And I agree with you...the veracity of that 20 year claim is the whole enchilada). ?

Back to the moon flask: yes, absolutely, it all depends on that 20 years - and maybe a loupe, just to check if Huey hasn't already.
I buy lots of antiques and spend a lot of time digging through attics and barns. One has to take all forms of oral provenance with a huge pinch of salt. People may not be deliberately trying to deceive but they are easily muddled. The times I’ve had someone say “that has to be at least 100 years old because it was my grandmother’s and she was born in 1904!” Then you point out that she died in 1990 so the piece is actually 1970s in date, just like you initially thought. People assume that an item is as old as the initial owner!
People Loose track of time, something they packed away 5 years ago ‘feels’ like it was 10 years ago.
This moonflask May well have been packed away in 1998. But it’s not the sort of provenance one can use to verify age? Especially if you’re planning on selling it on.
But if you’re happy about it personally, that’s OK. Just be aware that it’s not going to cut the mustard if/when you want to sell it. Therefore, the price should reflect the suspect provenance.

I don't think it makes much difference : cycle year marks like reign marks can be faked or used randomly to 'honour ' a date, reign or style of painting etc, They cannot always be taken at face value.
whatever the date , the quality of this vase is below average , imo. The shape is too circular, if that makes sense, and the proportions of the waves and bird seem wrong to me. I think whoever painted it wasn't particularly skilled.

I think the bottom line here is that this is a more or less contemporary moon flask with average painting quality. The claim that someone had bought it about 20 years ago and had kept it wrapped is somewhat fishy to say the least. However, if Huey likes it and wants it for decorative purposes there is nothing wrong with that at all.
