I have this large pair of floor vases. All hand painted by the looks of things and approx 60cm in height each. Mid 20th century? Or newer?
I like the colour scheme. Do you have any clearer photos of the base, in particular, please?
Julia
Hi Julia. Sorry for the poor pics. I am not sure these will be much better.
If I encountered these in the wild, I would think famille verte kangxi revival, mid to late 19th century. Beautiful vases!
That said, my knowledge and experience is still limited, so I might be off 😀

Thanks, not much better, I'm afraid. I think someone says it is best to take photos from a distance to maintain the focus and then crop.
I still can't be sure but from what I see, I tend to agree with Michael. They are certainly lovely, wish they were mine!
Where did you get them, what were you told about them?
Julia
Hi Julia
Sorry about the photo's , I was using my phone , i will upload some better pics at some point , I bought them from a prominent family in Ireland who have a few pieces of Chinese porcelain , They did not know how they came into the family because they were bought by their mother who has since passed away , I still think they are mid to late 20th century , I am not sure why just a feel i get from them . I do like them and think the quality is quite good with some gilt wear which was pushing me toward a mid 20th century dating and not a late 20th century date. I will be interested to learn more however.
I find it hard to take photos. I have an orange phone cover, too, which always reflects into it the photo and makes things worse. I shall look forward to seeing some better pics when you have time. ?
Julia
Hi Julia
Thank you for your response , I will post some on Monday or Tuesday when i get time to take photo's outside with better daylight .
These pics might be better .
Those are much better. Thank you.
I have some reservations, because they look to be nicely made and the necks have the same luting line that my 19th c vase of this shape has, but my instinct is saying modern ie maybe 1980s or 90s. There are a lot of dots (irrational of me, I am sure) and the white is very white but not in a Kangxi way, more of a modern way.
Besides, you have them and clearly feel they are not antique. Is there any sign of beginning and end on the blue circles on the base?
Hope someone else might be able to advise you better.
Julia
The vases are beautifully made, but somehow the colors have a modern touch to me. The foot also looks modern.
Birgit
Yes I think too these are modern - the strange dotted effect , and the rather stiff painting of the flowers and the upside down butterflies ; also it's hard to see from these photos, but the orange line between the footrim and the outside of the vase looks like it could have been applied deliberately (to imitate iron oxide residues from old firing )
tam
I have just seen the 19th c example on Peter's video, which is also quite unusual: that has lots of dots but they are more subtle and used less extensively. The enamels used in the pictures in the panels are softer, too.
Julia
