as I was given as a tip, I first share here the plate I talked about. in my opinion a family Verte plate. I have restored it myself after it was broken into 5 pieces. please let me know if the pictures are of good quality. maybe i should download another software to do it.
what i see is a man standing in his garden surrounded by flowers. I honestly don't dare to say which flowers it is all about. I suspect it has chrysanthemum, morning glory, crab applee and peonies, but perhaps it is also the hibiscus and roses, or maybe jasmine or camellia. I must honestly say that I still find this quite difficult to say. so to come to the story with what is depicted, I would like to find out more about this. the yellowish color seems to be the right one after I have read that it would be amber yellow in this period. the red seems to me to be copper red. I honestly do not know about the green and I am not completely finished with the purplish color. if I am not mistaken, it has already been used befor this period.
I would like to learn a bit more about collors and decorations
Hi Jordy,
In my opinion based on your pictures that this type of ware is not in my normal realm of interest, I would submit that your plate is in the style of a Kangxi period.
Based on the enamels, paste and decoration therein your plate dates from late Qing, early republic period. So in estimate, probable date of 1880-1920.
Would wait until you receive more opinions from far better experienced than myself when assessing these types of wares.
Mark
Dear Mark, no, this is real Kangxi.
Dear Jordy, a nice kangxi famille verte dish, what a pity for the damage. How big is it? If it is of standard (about 22 cm diam) size, the value is very low because of the damage. If it is a charger of 30 - 36 cm then it has still some value, but low anyway.
Where do you see a man in the garden? I do not see him. There are rocks in the garden.
The red is over glaze iron red, which make this famille verte.
Regards,
Giovanni
Nice study piece you now have there Jordy. A real pity about the damage that has dramatically effected the price etc.
Nice to be corrected by the master. 👌
Mark
It is around 35 cm.
as for the man I saw, I thought it was so strange that he missed an arm and head, haha. that damage is certainly a pity, not only because of the art itself, but also because of the fact that this is the sign that has fueled my interest in Chinese porcelain. but beyond that I am glad to hear that I was in the right direction with this.
Could you also tell me which types of flowers are shown here?
Hi Jordy,
Giovanni is, as usually, correct🙂...
For comparison:- attached image of a large Kangxi ‘famille verte’ dish, 36.5 cm, ex Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which displays similarly drawn rocks, flowers and colours ...
The base mark on your dish is an ‘artemisia leaf’, which is commonly found on such large pieces ...
As with Mark, a nice study piece ...
Stuart
What a pity it’s broken. It looks like you glued it together very well but maybe a professional repair making the lines invisible would be a good idea. Wouldn’t be too expensive I think as there are only five parts involved and your repair is still fresh and can be easily dissolved.
Birgit
Hi Jordy,
it is not straightforward to identify the flowers on your dish, because they are quite unusual.
Generally, the flowers on Kangxi ware are identifiable, but here it seems that we have different flowers mixed on the same plant, which is unusual.
On the far left and right we have orchids leaves, but the flower doesn’t seem orchid.
Then, an odd decoration.
You said that you are going to sell it?
Regards,
Giovanni
A very nice Kangxi Saucer Dish, the ‘yellow’ is iron oxide.
Vic
I'm searching on the web for an expert in reparing porcelain. I'm dutch so if you have some advise for a expert in the netherlands, feel free to give.
Thanks for your information about the flowers on my plate.
And yes I want to sell it on ebay as an auction. Are you interested?
Dear Jordy, how can I contact you? May be via your ebay name, which I don't know?
Giovanni
Yeah, I think that would be the easiest way for contacting. My ebay name is jordkerssie-0
