Hello, what do you think about this charger? I'm little afraid of items with collector's stickers, popular on fakes. What period it can be? Diameter - 36 cm. Thanks in advance! Lysander
Hi Lysander,
this looks absolutely right for a Kangxi wucai charger around 1700. The painting quality, the decoration style and the back side is all typical for Kangxi.
Very nice piece. 😀

Hi Chris,
yes, looks correct. But some fakes are so well made, that I'm going crazy... Thank you for your answer!
Best regards,
Peter
Hi Lysander,
you're right about the fakes getting better all the time. Of course, you can never be 100 % sure just by watching the pictures. But I still believe that this is the real one. It's just the overall look that it has with the hairline, some wear to the enamels, the colors are right, etc.
Let's see what others have to say
Chris
Not my area but I would be very surprised if this charger was a modern repo. It oozes quality.
Mark
It is beautiful; is it yours?
Hi Lysander -
As with Mark, really not my area at all but, from the images posted, I also doubt this is modern, the painting style and colours look fine to me ...

Hi Lysander,
I can agree with Chris. The quality of the work, the enamels, white glaze, sharply finished foot ring, imperfect glaze within the base and the Kangxi mark all look good based on the photos provided. Just one thing, if it’s yours please carefully remove that damn wire mount, they only cause damage to porcelain!
best regards,
Hugh

Hi Stuart, thank you very much. I think I found this or very similar one. What I was concerning are straigth lines from edge towards the center in my piece, virtually all similar examples I found in books or internet were more fluid, not so geometrical. Anyway, bought it.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Hugh, removing wires will be the first what I gonna do when delivered. Thank you for your comment. Best regards, Peter
I also had a look for comparative examples and the outer panels as you say are often more curvilinear , if that is a word, but I think yours could just be later Kangxi - the flower sprigs on the back are more carefully depicted than on many other large kangxi plates , but again this is probably just variations within a period or perhaps at the beginning of the next reign - yongzheng. I don't think kilns in Jingdezhen suddenly changed their style of decoration and production overnight, but presumably the influence of the new Emperor's taste would gradually affect production in JDZ.
The enamels and style of the flower basket etc here all look tpyical and very nice examples of Kangxi work, imo.

It is a lovely genuine piece, well done on purchasing it.
This Charger or Saucer Dish from Christies has the same Angular style of decoration.
I believe your mark reads Made to order.

The art of calligraphy - and for the ancient Chinese it certainly was an art - aimed to demonstrate superior control and skill using brush and ink.
