Dear all,
today I was at a flea market and bought two pairs of Japanese imari vases.
The first pair are molded rectangular vases with the classic imari look to them. They are heavy and made of very thick paste. What would you say about their age? I can´t decide, if they are 19./20. century or older (maybe even 18. century)?
The second pair are definitely newer looking vases with multi coloured decoration. I would date them to meiji to taisho period. Do you think so as well?

Thank you all for your help. The second pair is a keeper (for now) while I´ll try to make some money on selling the first one.
I was really lucky to find those two pairs, especially as I paid like 5 € a vase. But good things are rarely found on German flea markets. Mostly only 1950s onwards or cheap tourist stuff.

That was a really good find, then. I am not sure how things are with flea markets here in France as Covid restrictions have stopped me going anywhere yet, but I am looking forward to finding out! 😊
@shinigami I did buy a vase at a Nurnberg Saturday market in 1985 that I had hope for, but Springmeier informed me it was modern. We have not heard from Springmeier for quite some time. I hope everyone is getting back to busy, prosperous lives. I am grateful for my tablet, which reminds me of The Further Adventures of the 101 Year Old Man (Scandinavian author of The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out a Window and The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden), which I recently read and enjoyed, he also has discovered the joys of being connected via his tablet. I think you guys may be correct about the second vase.
It's very subjective. Some may think Meiji. Others taisho. It's so close it doesn't matter.
I would still sell them as Meiji with the addition of late Meiji for the second one.

The first 2 Imari vases are typical Japanese Imari, but good weight and shape and realticely good quality but typical none the less.
The Second vase is really stunning and might be a 17th/18th Century Imari style. Maybe a revival. All the same it looks great.

Thank you for finding that comparison. They really look like those early brocade style pieces but I am sure that my vases are 19. -20. century as the paste is very white and thin and there is almost no wear to the enamels. They are relatively good painted anyway. Especially the kimonos.
