Hello fellow members, long time no write!
Hope you are all doing well, I was a bit busy at work and away from it as well.
I have got some very good quality antiques recently, some of them are true gems but strictly European, however I was able to find some Asian stuff as well.
Here is what I got:
1. Is this a jade vase, and what are your thoughts on it's age? Height: 18cm.
2. Export jug - I think it's absolutely gorgeous.
3. Japanese bamboo lidded jar with wooden cylindrical inside container - now I know that this stuff goes for crazy prices at auctions, what do you think? Is it 19th C?
Thanks for all the comments, appreciate any word of advice.
Kind regards,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,
I love the Chinese export Jug,looks in great condition and nice to have a combination of scattered flowers on the body with Chinese motif in the Cartouches.
Probably 2nd half of 18th c and colour wise similar to German porcelain of the time like Furstenburg, etc.
The 'Jade' piece I'm not too sure of,it looks like Serpentine rather than a spinach Jade.
Serpentine is much softer than Nephrite and will easily be marked with a metal blade. You can test it on the base at your own risk but really need a set of Mohs pencils.
It looks quite big, maybe too big and heavy for a specific gravity test ?

Hi Adrian,
The lidded bamboo container is fantastic and would IMO date from the Meiji period. Stunning carving and very sought after, especially if its Chinese.
The export jug would date from late 19th century, as Vic has already posted.
The jade vase is probably serpentine judging by the colour/spotted. Difficult to determine given the low quality of pictures.
The carving quality and style suggest early 20th century at best.
Serpentine being a 'soft' stone often has small chips or distinctive scratches especially at the base.
It can if serpentine easily be marked by a sharp blade.

The Japanese Basket is fantastic and in such perfect condition.
Hi Adrian -
I know very little about such pieces, but would agree with the above comments on the Japanese lidded bamboo container - stunning quality!!
Stuart
Hi Adrian,
First class woven basket really like the tight wicker work to the top and base. Great find.
Michael
Hello,
I can see that for some reason my comment was not posted and it took me a while to write it 🙂 Maybe I made some silly mistake. Anyway, to make the long story short - thank you all for all your feedback, you are amazing! I am more confident with ceramics, paintings and wood than with gems and stones. I have to study it more carefully, so far I've learnt that there is a lot of fakes out there and basically only a lab can verify if the sample is real or not. Not sure if its true or not. This piece I got from a seller (it was quite cheap so no gamble here for me) who had another one, lighter in colour but the execution was crude in detail - for example all the border patterns were a bit clumsy, not straight, the proportions were disrupted, sharper edges, basically I could compare that one with this and this one was looking with more age to it than the other one. It measures 18cm in height and weights around 640g. The neck is more translucent than the lower body. I really don't know. My hunch tells me it's not new but not that old at the same time. Republic period that would be wonderful and somehow I see a bit of that aesthetics. Yet again, that might be just my wishful thinking. It has quite nice touch, with a bit of wear as well and I don't really see any marks of blunt and brutal carvings on it.
I am glad you like the Japanese basket. The only thing that is torturing me is the thought there could be a mark of a maker on the bottom of the wooden pot which is impossible to get out of the body as it was placed there during the weaving process. Japanese craftsmen liked to do funny games like that 🙂
One more time thank you very much for your support and have a great weekend guys!
Kind regards,
Adrian
