Please for accept my apologies as this is not quite the usual fare, as this item i am asking about is really just thrift store vintage.
I recently bought this, and I am puzzled by it. Ordinairly i would not buy such things, but looking at it i thought that if this was made by hand then it must have taken such a huge effort. I have studied it and think it is handmade. So much work it appears, or could be machine made. I imgaien it must take hours and hours and days and days to make just one and yet they sell for in some cases only $60.
Do you think this was handmade.
It is hard to tell from the photos. It looks fairly modern in the colours. Are the stitches all very regular?
It does seem a shame when you consider the amount of work and skill that goes into handmade pieces, that they sell for so little. I guess these pieces are simply not what people want to hang on their walls.
Maybe as they become antiques, prices will rise for hand-made ones.
I would say that at least parts of it if not the whole picture is stitched by hand. The complicated tail feathers and the white threads that are gathered with black threads are most probably done by hand. Stitched pictures where fashionable in the 1980s and will probably be again in the future.

I guess I had the answer in front of me then, indeed i checked the stiching on most points and it is not machine made. I just did not know how to check. The stitches are irregular and demonstrate they are handmade. I need a loupe to really get an idea but I can't find my loupe, but to my naked eye they are hand stitched.
Su embroidery
I was watching a documentary on Chinese embroidery and the chinese embroiders are so good they can easily replicate ancient Chinese silk embrodery ( not easily it was a goverment project ). They easily restored many silk cloud brocade but had a huge problem with the golden velvet style as the looms and techniques had been lost to time, but they rebuilt a traditional golden velvet loom.

Yes you are correct, the part where the white threads are gathered by the black threads is why i bought it, as it was a clear sign there was some hand work. However i was not aware you can check the stitches to confirm it is handmade.
So this would be from the 1980's. If Julia is correct then it is will be only another 65 years before it is an antique. This particular picture was done with some skill, and real labour was put into it. There are similar types based on the same design and they seem to vary greatly in quality.
I only paid £15 for this. and it was not for an investment but just because i was taken back that something handmade that required so much attention and detail is just thrift store fare. I am not sure where digital embrodery will go in the future, as far as i understand silk at the tiny widths hand embroiders use is too delicate to be machine made, as the silk thread snaps easily, so they have to use silk synthetics and even then the thread must be much thicker usually whole strands. In the future these 1980 hand embroidery pictures if they are real silk thread on satin as it appears to be then perhaps they will always retain that origionality over synthetic machine made.
You don’t have to wait until it is 100 years old, only until it is fashionable again which might be 50 years after production.
Another decade or 2 🙂 People will be jealous of my picture. Good times ahead. People from all around will want to come to my house to see my picture 🙂 There will be flying cars and Ai robots and they will call it the virtual age an din these times these rare hand made items will be of exceptional importance.
