Michael,
I appreciate the kindness in your words, (and referencing a great song).
Often times I do feel a little guilty for writing a “micro-thesis” per post.
I’m not on here as often as I wish, but do like to try to add some robust discussion.. especially when it comes to those “just starting out”, or needing more than a quickly made answer.
(Sorry if the below posts in bold, on my phone and having issues with such recently)..
Ideally, it also aimed at highlighting a larger theme (in helping fellow buyers/sellers) of checking the sale as a whole & using contextual clues when referencing prices.
I do not wish to add negative deterrents, or hinder contributions relevantly (and positively) made to assist a great community of passionate people.
-JRN
Hi JRN,
I have spent quite a while this morning trying to understand why you write in this fashion. Its very unusual. (By the way, this last post above was much better for my personal comprehension. Not sure if it was intentional, but for me, it is better).
My thoughts have gone to something that I have a bit of, which is OCD. Personally, I’ve mostly controlled it in my own life, and have even put it to use. When I am practicing a song on the guitar, for example, I can play the same one for a couple of hours straight, maybe fifty times. In the end, as opposed to forcing myself to play it again, its more that I have to force myself to stop.
So, in reading your posts, I begin each sentence thinking that maybe this sentence will be more easily understood. But invariably, it becomes convoluted, to my point of view. The lack of exceptions to this occurrence made me think maybe OCD is involved. An uncontrollable urge to add more and more to each thought. Not sure if that is the best way to explain it, but maybe you understand my meaning. Not to get too personal, don’t feel the need to divulge anything that you would rather not. Just a thought I had. I have no idea if that has any validity. Could be some perfectionism involved also. Or not.
Honestly, if I didn’t reign it in, I think I might write in a similar fashion to you. Sometimes I feel a love for the words, if that’s a way to explain it, and it could easily get out of hand.
When I read your posts this morning, I was nearly convinced it was intentional. I thought, he must know that this is not comprehensible. (Not the entire post, just parts). But if one is unfamiliar with Tourette’s, for example, they might think that is intentional too. The mind is a fascinating thing, and no two are close to the same. (Not to imply that you have Tourette’s of the pen...)
I have never been annoyed...maybe a tad frustrated on occasion, at most.
If there is some confusion, please don’t write shorter posts with less information.
And no apologies necessary. (Except possibly on my end).
Hi Michael,
Nice poem!
I am not concerned with length of posts. In fact I prefer them long. Its just that, I feel, people are missing out on potentially valuable information that JRN is able to provide. This is the reason I never joined Twitter and never will. The character limit pretty much flies in the face of what I think matters. But to believe someone can change their style of writing to suit me is perhaps unrealistic at best 😋
take it with a grain of salt
@jrn I found your response to my post informative and helpful. Being new to all of this I appreciate the advice and tips for buying and selling wisely. I imagine that more seasoned collectors might take certain information as a given already because they have the knowledge and experience, so having things over-explained might seem unnecessary to them. But to me, it is still often new information, so I welcome the enhanced feedback when people feel it is relevant. Cheers! John
@brettm I agree and lest we forget, "someone left the cake out in the rain and I'll never have that recipe again." I enjoy the information and I have the time and inclination to think about ceramics.
Yes Sharon, but Billy Joel divorced that wife and married Christie Brinkley 🤣
take it with a grain of salt
@watership I knew there had to be a reason I like Journey better than Billy Joel, "Faithfully."
