Hi Short Dong,
I agree with tam Erroll and Julia. They are not Kangxi pieces. The colour of the first one might be right, but the decoration is too sloppy to be of the Kangxi period.
Chris
Thanks for all your opinions guys 🙂
I have not seen this kind of design before, it is rare and it was a possibility, it sold at £58 which means whomever the bidders were they were thinking it might be Kangxi otherwise i do not see why it sold so high.
real kangxi jars go into the hundreds , so £58 is very modest . not sure what you mean by the design being different or rare, both the examples you posted are very typical for prunus jars
tam
I think good quality Kangxi pieces sometimes go into the thousands depending on rarity of the decoration and condition.
I would even say 58 pounds would be very modest for a late 19th century jar, which I don't think it is.
I’d have said this had at least some age?
what about this one? The cracked ice seems to have been done in relief.

Hi Nic,
I don't like it. IMO, the decoration is awful, and sloppy. Unless the pictures are really deceiving, I would have passed it by if I'd run into it in the wild.

Yes , I agree that last one is new and not nice, more likely Chinese than Japanese
tam
Dear Michael,
I agree that the painting around the blossoms is very sloppy on the second one. But I quite like the relief effect. Because prunus jars are so common, something a bit different is refreshing.
Dear a Tam,
I hadn’t even noticed it was lised as Japanese! I don’t always read the seller description as I like to do the deciphering myself. It’s part of the learning process for me.
Up until I read this thread, I had no interest in prunus pattern pieces because it seemed such a minefield and there are so many of them about. But this thread has really sparked an interest in me.

I am not convinced that item is in the UK. The language used sounds unlike a native speaker, which is fine but always makes me want to check further with Chinese items. The delivery will be started within 10 days after payment has cleared and takes up to a further 5 days after that.
Sorry if I am being overly suspicious. ?
Hm,
bit of a mixed bag, this one? His name, allegedly, is Mike. Some of his items appear on the Bidamount list but as Julia says, the delivery is a bit of a mystery. Maybe the first 10 days is delivery from China or Hong Kong to his London address, the other 5 is from London to the final destination?
In the item description, he kindly offers an authentication service “and not items necessarily from me”. Would one need him to authenticate his own items when he “guarantees” they’re genuine in the listing?
Were all his items made for the domestic market? If not, how many export items would’ve remained in China and Hong Kong all this time?
There are some ‘interesting’ provenance documents available with some items.
What do people think of the ‘Flambé’ he has? Very unfortunate firing flaw on the rim.
I don’t know. It will be interesting to read what others think about some of the items.
Nic
I do not believe said listing is a genuine period piece.
I do however believe this is most likely a late 19th century item. The base and colour look OK to me. Also the wooden fittings appear to be early 20th Century.
I may off course be totally wrong and shall heed the opinion of more esteemed members.
I have no thought on whether he is or isn't a resident of the UK etc. I suppose a contact mobile # may help.

It is evident that, regardless if he is living in UK or in the Far East, the guy is Chinese.
He is not selling fakes but he is not clear, he says that there are damages on his pieces but he never shows them clealry.
Giovanni
What is your opinion of the lamp base Giovanni? Do you think it’s Kangxi or 19th century?
what about this? Why does the black glaze look like black porridge?
