Thoughts?  I've only seen these photos. The photo of the mark seems off color, but I think that is just the photography. Thanks!

@Greeno107,

Whilst I am not an expert on these types of wares I think it's genuine Ming bowl.

Nicely decorated with a very good strong seal mark.

The colour is cobalt. The photo is not showing the true colour in my opinion.

Not sure if this is a common theme/design or if it's sought after. Perhaps if Giovanni or Stuart pop in they will be able to enlighten us all.

@imperialfinegems  Thanks!  I'll wait for a few more to chime in.  I'm having a problem with the face of the sage...very indented cheeks.  Furthermore, the seller is listing it with quite a few other Chinese pieces, some obvious fakes, others questionable, but is claiming all are vintage...1970's, but seems to know styles/periods.

If the bowl is a late copy, it most likely is a cleverly done modern piece... I just don't buy the 1970's dating.

So, I'm tempted by the possibility that this person just has no idea what they have....used whatever resource they could muster, and listed them for sale.

They have a rather nice looking jade figure, too!  They state it is nephrite...it looks like jadeite.  What do you think?

@imperialfinegems

Sorry Mark, but a long way from being Ming. Stuart and Giovanni will confirm.

@Greeno107,

The guy has posted some terrible pics of this carving. Especially the underside one!

I think from what I can see that it is highly probable to be genuine nephrite jade. It has a very nice luster. Looks to be a greenish-grey. It could be late Qing early 20th century. I believe that because of the way the tails are carved. But the pictures are blurry and other when I try to enlarge them. So it's risky to a point.

Definitely worth a punt or two. How much are they asking if you don't mind me asking?

Perhaps some better pictures of the base to confirm its date. By just the picture of the base it looks modern with a bluish tinge.

I see that George has just posted that the bowl is not Ming. I take it that he thinks it's new or later part of the 20th century. I know nothing about them at all as you know.

@imperialfinegems

Foot rim and bold signature are all off as if someone attempting to fool. I’m thinking 20th century.

@Greeno107,

Had a closer look at figure on a larger screen. Judging by the base and paws it looks 20th century and not earlier. I can't be more specific based on the images.

You would need to have HD of the entire figure especially the tail and heads.

Worth a go for about $100. Good upside if genuine. Not damaging if it turns out to be both modern and not nephrite. Definitely not jadeite jade in my opinion.

Thank you all!

I've gone through their roughly 20 items.... the odds that there is an old piece among all the new junk....very small.  Not worth the risk.

The jade piece asking price is $1200.  The bowl $425.

I'm passing on both....just too risky.

Many thanks!

@Greeno107 and @gfhandel,

I should have had a closer look at the faces and rocks. Modern!

@greeno107

Hi  -

Having looked at these images I would concur with George@gfhandel and Mark@imperialfinrgems - this bowl has little age ...

The compositions is a pastiche of mid 15th, mid/late 16th and some mid 17th features, with a very badly written 6-character Xunade mark  but the drawing style and shading, blue/glaze tones and footrim/base finish are all wrong ...

Note the stiffness of the lotus plant motif on the interior, especially the water, to the interior design or the depiction of the butterfly, both of which are very badly drawn - to give just two examples  ...

Leave well alone ...

Stuart

Of course concur with George and Stuart. Trying to look Transitional, but really far from that.
