@greeno107 I just looked her up, her name was Kate Brewington Bennett and she was not applying arsenic to her face but ingesting a small amount every day as part of her beauty regimen, as it gave her a marble like complexion and as his last gift to her, her husband gave her a marble tomb, died at 37 from arsenic poisoning. Probably a safe bet that ingestion of arsenic would play havoc with your reasoning abilities. 🤔Â

@lotusblack Honestly, I don't know - I am among the cinnibar snobs...I just don't buy that style as to me it looks to muddy in color, and the carving is not sufficiently artistic.

Hi Brian,
Whilst I am not an expert on cinnabar I feel that it's likely to be from the early 20th century. Rather than the late Qing period.
If it's indeed genuine cinnabar then I think the price you paid for it is cheap in my opinion.

@greeno107 I encountered a few recently that appeared like they were just painted over carved wood. It seemed like lacquer, but I suspected it was just a thin layer over the wood that was the carved part. Is that a thing they do?Â
