A GEORGE II CHINOISERIE BLACK LACQUERED LONGCASE CLOCK, THE DIAL SIGNED WILLIAM PIERCE, NEW ROMNEY, CIRCA 1735
Estimate $3,000 - $5,000
That clock is estimated at almost half the price of this 2oth century table. Crazy state of affairs.
A ZITAN RECESSED LEG RECTANGULAR TABLE, PINGTOUAN, 20TH CENTURY
Estimate $5,000 - $7,000
Hi Mark
I like the Japanese screen lot 105. Plus the Chinese scroll lot 84 looks interesting. I think the stone and wood carvings are better than the last sale.
Hi Short,
You made me smile not sure where you found that clock can't see it in this sale. But you are correct about brown furniture being out of favor. That imari plate at 76cm is getting up there in size, showing my age but I can remember when dealers priced imari plates by the the inch. Can't comment on the Syd Nolan painting as I have absolutely no understanding of whats called modern art. I also think the price of antique silver has fallen almost as much as brown furniture. Antique silver by good makers always used to sell at good premium over the market price for spot silver this seems not to be so much the case today. As far as being wealthy enough to buy for future generations of my family I think good quality Japanese antique art of all kinds would be the way to go. I should mention I have an interest in this sale as a seller so will be more interested in the results than usual.
Cheers
Michael
