Compared to much of what I am getting at the moment, the pictures are great: there is more than one and they show all around! At least then one has a reasonable chance of deciding for oneself if something is genuine or not.
Enjoy browsing!
You can always ask for HD additional pictures. They are very accommodating.
I also love this white jade scholars rock from the late Ming early Qing period.

Hello All,
Hope my last post did not come over being to negative. My main gripe with the photo's is the magnification tool only works on the first photo. As Mark has said Joel's do provide great customer service, all their staff are really helpful. The fact I find a couple of the estimates a bit high should not be read as a negative criticism or be understood to imply I am casting doubt on a item, It's just my personal view. Perhaps I should refrain from expressing personal views and just stick to cold hard provable facts.

@shinigami, @Brettm, @Greeno107, @SharonP, @Julia
I managed to get that small republican vase #61 for $650 plus premium.
I hope it's earlier as greeno107 indicated it might be. 🙏
Regardless of whether it is or isn't earlier I do like it very much. 🙂
Mark
Congratulations! When you get it post some good pictures, maybe we can find out how old it is.
Birgit
Congratulations, Mark! That's a bargain for your vase, in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing more of it!
Really pleased for you! 😊 It is a nice-looking piece!
@imperialfinegems Sorry for my recent absence - I've literally been buried in work landscaping.
Congrats! I think it is a fascinating piece, and yes, I feel 19th c. is more probable than Republic.
When I encounter Republic pieces that commemorate the Qianlong, generally they try to recreate the taste/style/theme of the Qianlong.
This seems to be less often the case with 19th c. pieces that are decorated in the current period's design, but places the Qianlong mark to elevate the quality of the piece....sort of saying, 'this piece is so good that it's good enough to be Qianlong'.
Unfortunately I could not find photos if my demon vases, but Daoguang feels correct to me based on the photos.
Hi Mark -
Lovely piece, my congratulations on acquiring😊...
As with Birgit, much looking forward to seeing some high quality images when it’s safely arrived ...
Stuart
Hello,
Well done Mark good to hear that you managed to get the thing you had your mind and heart set on, look forward to better pic's. Think Joel's might be a bit disappointed that so many lots were unsold perhaps their estimates were a bit to high.
Michael
Hi Michael,
Yes I agree with you that a number of lots had high expectations. The dragon bowl with the guangxu marks did very well indeed.
I really did not think I would have got the vase etc. Was expecting it to exceed $800. But that the way I guess.
I am thinking about the white jade scholars rock I posted earlier. I now know the owner etc.
Did you buy anything?
Mark
Mark,
No I did not bid on anything. Went to the viewing. The timber items I was interested in I think the descriptions of the timber type were perhaps a ... bit optimistic anyway most of the timber items were over restored "IMO" they have a bit to much toffee on them any antique value being destroyed. Funnily enough the lot 83 the lamp stand is very nice they only described it as hard wood I did think about it but not really looking for larger items at this stage of life having moved to a much smaller home a year or so ago. I was interested in lot 62 as I collect ceramic boxes however I am currently negotiating with a London dealer on a box with a horse on it and don't have the spare cash to fund both. I am also a bit worried that there seems to be quite a few transitional " M & P boxes on the market at the moment not that I could see anything wrong with the Joel's box it seemed right. I am also interested in lot 89 I could put that table to good use and the Song items would be a bonus but I don't think the amount I have in mind will be acceptable. But you never know your luck in the big city.
Michael
Hi Brettm,
At least you have a house to go to my friend!
I think also their woods were optimistic and possibly wrongly stated etc. I don't think LJ have any wood specialist on board. I have asked before a couple of years ago.
I did pick up the vase today I bought. I posted it on another thread etc etc. I also had a look at the scholars jade rock. It's beautiful. But it's not really white jade. It's more greyish-white.
Hope you can secure a deal in London. There are some superb dealers there. Including Ben Janssens and Steve Sly. Although Steve is very expensive imo.
You can always make them offers. At worst they Say No. At 30% under you have a chance. Any lower is possible only if it's a desperate sale. You never know though. I often have made offers at 50%. Most are rejected immediately. You can only try!
