Japan in general seems to be a good place to hunt for Chinese antiques. Or at least I found many interesting pieces from Japanese dealers on eBay. But also many fakes unfortunately...

Theres lots of things 300+ pages, from last april. The estimates range is quite wide. Some nice things, their chenghua chicken cup is very funny (- lot3135, estimate range aprox 260-450 usd). How did you find this auction, do they also sell on ebay.? I trust if anything worthwhile you're bound to find it.
Here an article from last year about chinese auction houses. (not japanese), i think the restrictions to foreign companies mentioned here may also apply to Japan. There dont seem to be any copyright infringement nor restrictions to inspired-by ceramics.

I don't think they sell on eBay or liveauctioneers but I haven't checked. I first came across their catalogues when they were advertising at a Chinese site. I don't know if the low estimates are to encourage bidders or if it's because Chinese antiques are not as highly regarded in Japan as they used to be. But I might be worth the effort to mail them ask questions. I hope to travel to Japan next year to visit dealers and auctioneers. Might be a little difficult as a westerner. They don't have any restrictions on export of antiques as far as I know.
It is a major crime to export Chinese antiques from mainland China and now Hong Kong. Probably the reason why you can't open the site or won't be able to register. It is "not", however a criminal offence to import Chinese antiques, i.e repatriate, from elsewhere. If you watch western auctions in general you will notice that many Chinese items are starting to repatriate themselves back to China now that the "nouveau rich" are running out of ideas on how to spend their money, and hence are buying everything. That, and the mantra of the PRC State wanting everything back means that even a simple blue and white saucer might just be re assimilated to the mother. Whether they get it all is very doubtful but it can only increase prices within the free market world as supply shrinks. Watch this space in 50 years.

Thanks for the info. But that auction is in Japan, not in China. I'm gonna travel to that part of the world as soon as possible. As far as I know there is no export restrictions for antiques in Japan, but I'll have to check up on that. An American is restricted from importing antiques older than 250 years into the US without proper permit. Since when has it been illegal to export antiques from Hong Kong? I thougt the rules would apply for 50 years.
I would worry about the interpretation of rules concerning Hong Kong. Rules and agreements are absolutely rock solid........................

The Mainland is moving and doing things that I worry are not in the spirit of the changeover agreement. Others will know better I'm sure...........
You are absolutely correct about unrestricted export from Japan. Great news for everyone. Japan is an unbelievable open country and one of my favourites in the world, if not my favourite over all. I didn’t read your post correctly quite clearly. I didn't see that the auction was in Japan so I really have no idea why you had difficulties. Good luck anyway. Best wishes
Well, actually I haven't tried to make a log-in to their site, so I can't tell if someone from outside Japan would experience difficulties in the process.
