Dear Forum members,

eBay seller ecliptic_art (real name, Patricia Hannam, with a suspected connection to Hannam's auction house in the south of England), is selling this, among other things:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/18th-19th-cen-fine-chinese-porcelain-famille-rose-bowl-qianlong-mark-prob-period-/113071827299?oid=113053901381

As I write, it's already at £400, and will probably go some more before it closes. She's telling us it's 'Qianlong mark probably period', which is quite a remarkable feat, given that it has a Jiaqing seal mark on it, but even for Jiaqing, the faces don't look quite right, and are more in keeping with a later date.

So, dear Forum members, save your money and don't throw it away on ecliptic_art, who is either way out of her depth, or crooked. Perhaps a bit of both?

Alan

From the faces I would say it is modern. Patricia can write what she wants, people buy anyway, so she doesn’t bother to even get the mark right. Maybe just copy and paste from another article. Thanks for warning us again, Alan. With this forum now having over 1000 members, we can only hope that some are prevented from falling into traps like this one.

Dear Birgit,

No doubt she will sell it to someone who doesn't know what they are doing and who is fooled by her description. It is a pity that items for sale from ecliptic_art are continuing to feature on the list of 'handpicked sellers' on bidamount.com, because they don't deserve to. I may raise this with Peter.

Incidentally, I don't see his weekly review of past and forthcoming eBay auctions loaded onto YouTube yet. I hope all is well with him? I look forward to his video reviews, nearly as much as to my daily coffee, and that is saying a lot!

Best wishes,

Alan

And here is a ps - it gets still worse. I've just noticed ecliptic_art is also offering a blue and white dish as 'probably Yuan'. It has currently reached £1,700. I've looked at it carefully. It's a modern knock-off:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/good-large-chinese-blue-and-white-porcelain-dish-charger-bowl-probably-yuan/113066127921?hash=item1a53443231:g:b2kAAOSwRQlbI6Xb

The incurable shamelessness of this seller may be beyond remedy, and it's unlikely she wants it to be remedied when she can make a packet out of it. I increasingly feel she should be booted from bidamount.com. Her appearance among reputable sellers damages them while it also lends her a credibility she no way deserves.

Dear Ok.Tc,

You'll do yourself a big favour if you don't bid, because if you did, you'd be trying to buy a fake.

Save your money for something authentic.

Incidentally, as per my previous post about Peter, it seems he's in France on holiday, so all is well.

All the best,

Alan

Dear Ok.Tc and Jim980,

Only too pleased to help out. It's a real shame that this dealer is featured in the 'handpicked' sellers on bidamount.com. Because she's listed there, people think all the items on her inventory are genuine. Far from it. I may raise this with Peter, because she's getting endorsement she doesn't deserve. Occasionally, she lists a genuine item, which confuses the issue.

Because eBay has changed its listing arrangements, the items I originally waved a red flag at are no longer visible on this post, but substitutes appear that are not in dispute. Please everyone be aware of this change in how eBay lists items that have ended.

Best wishes to all,

Alan

Hi Guy's

Hi Alan. I checked the sellers list and  ecliptic_art is definitely not on the list. I will open a post in general forum. ecliptic_art gets on bidamount through ebay.

I have outlined where the sellers list is...and below that are the raw searches list, they are raw and never checked, and that is where sellers like ecliptic_art are being generated. The best way to get the selected sellers is to save them to your ebay. They always have the best items but their auctions are always expensive but amazing bargains can be found there if your lucky.

Clicking on the yellow Hammer brings you here!

This is a list of all the selected high quality sellers, and any items they have on Ebay at the present time. If there are no items pictured below a sellers name it means, they presently have nothing up for auction.

Just below this list of sellers, there is another set of lists. It contains a buyer beware warning and is recommended only for experienced buyers. It is these items that appear randomly on different parts of the website.

Dear Short Dong,

What I've noticed is, that when you click on bidamount's selected UK and European sellers link, ecliptic_art comes up if she's listing something. She doesn't deserve to be featured.

All the best,

Alan

Dear Short Dong,

Yes, a correction, you're right. These links are now headlined as being raw searches for which bidders must use their own judgement.
