I purchased this piece from a collector who lived and work in China in the late 1970s early 80s for a oil company. They owned a lot of beautiful Chinese art but most of it was for the 80s period. The husband had recently passed away and the window is in her 90s. I purchased these wares not thinking they were authentic but really nice late Qing / republic reproductions.

 I have owned and own pretty much every era of “fake” Chinese wares ( I know them well 😆). What I don’t have in years of experience I make up for in buying power. I do have several period pieces from Qing dynasty and understand the quality of a real piece. I have also owned and handle authentic Ming pieces but nothing worth more than a couple thousand dollars but I know how a real piece fills and looks.

 I have my own opinions on it and I welcome all others opinions good or bad. I am currently waiting on a Sotheby’s appraisal.

When I first purchased the vase it had a wax seal from China. I believe they let this piece leave the country because it is damaged or they weren’t as strict in the 1980s as they are now.

Also the shape of the vase is very unique. It is early style vase just like the artwork.

The one very unique thing about this vase is the damage. This vase stuck to another one in the kiln. They decided to carefully saw them apart to save this piece. You can see how pure the clay is. You can also see the cobalt and glaze from the other piece.

The paste feels very smooth and soft, like baking flower. Not sandy like my Qing pieces.

To me, all these pieces look like they have come from the same kiln/studio. I think your first thought was correct, that they are all reproductions.

@somewhereintexas

Hi Bob -

As mentioned in my responses to the Yongzheng mark temple thread  - this meiping is very far from an authentic Xuande period piece ...

Late 20th century - at best ...
