Hello, I got this plate from Edmund Grundner to take advantage of his sale, too bad for the bubble burst but I wanted a early Ming (HONGWU) piece in my collection.

This is not from the Hongwu, or even early Ming periods, but dates to from the late 15th to early/mid 16th C - so late Chenghua to Jijing periods ...
The painting style, motif composition and shape, which is referred to in the West as a 'hole in the bottom' dish, is unknown from the Hongwu/early Ming ...

Reading Stuart's post, let me see if I can find a Hongwu piece in my export collection that I can offer to you. I have a lot of this kind of wares from different periods of the Ming, and while I'm not sure if I have any from hongwu, if Stuart will confirm the period and it turns out I do have something you like, I'm happy to send it to you if you cover the cost of shipping.
I don't collect this manner of porcelain - it came from an estate I bought out.

Thank you Stuart, I took it for granted what the descripiton was from Edmund Grundner (probably nobody knows it all in the field of Chinese porcelain), he is a great dealer. For me it is all the same, i am only 2 years in (collecting Asian Antiques) and it was cheap for what it is. Love it the same. Thank you for clearing it for me !

I had a box of little miniature export jars, bowls, and some plates that had been marked (paper labels) as Song and Yuan, but I suspected there were a few that were early Ming. I have many left over, but most are at my building. Here's one I just happen to have in my cubard....could this be Hongwu?

Again, painting style would indicate late 15th/early 16th C date, so Hongzhi/Zhengde periods ...
The glaze degradation indicates this piece was recovered from either a shipwreck or burial ...
But even such pieces as these are now been faked in huge numbers. I have seen numerous such examples offered various Trocadero/eBay sites ...

@ming1449 Thanks! Fakes you say? When I first bought the estate two years ago, I was selling these for $5-20 each depending on size and decoration, and even then I found them hard to sell.
So, like I offered earlier, I'm happy to give them to a collector who is looking to fill a hole in their collection for the cost of shipping....perhaps, though, the cost of shipping won't make it worthwhile, or quite likely I don't have a Hongwu.
I'll wait for you to post some photos of genuine Hongwu (if you can) before I flood the thread with a bunch of late Ming pieces nobody is interested in seeing.

Ongoing research has now shifted the dating criteria of such pieces, they are know thought to have been produced from Chenghua up to early Jiajing, so late 15th to early/mid 16thC, so around 1470’s/1530’s ...
