hello folks, just increased my little provincial Ming collection by one. Well I certainly hope so. Just received this ebay purchase yesterday. It was undeclared as far as age, just listed as antique Chinese plate.
I’m hoping some one will confirm provincial Ming or at the very least Ming period Swatow. I am hoping it’s not another piece of kitchen Qing.

this looks like a Tek Sing bowl of the 1820s. If you google Tek sing you will find many examples. I have one myself because I like the pattern very much. The longer I collect the more I like the simple designs they made for the Asian market.

Shinigami, thanks for your input. The pattern is slightly different than the google images. All the google images show a spiral pattern in the centre, but the pattern is close enough, and the rustic glazing is the same. So it looks like I have another piece of third quarter Qing provincial wares. And just as I thought I had identifying provincial mink worked out.

Thanks for the link John, on doing a bit of research on My new plate I read the glaze is generally thicker on items made at the Dehua kilns. When compared to my confirmed provincial Ming bowles is easily noticeable. My plate shows no signs of being underwater so maybe not from the Tek Sing. But then again I did find a picture of the same plate attributed to the Tek Sing.
Your link John also demonstrates the thicker glaze. Although, if I were to see the Tek Sing bowle in your link I would think it’s Provincial Ming. Has every thing I would be looking for, bluish grey tinge to the glaze, gaps were the glaze flowed and glazing pops. Also the paste a bit corser than the finer pieces.
I’m Only into the plate for a little less than $50US seems to be under the general market price, so I think I did well, if not for the 300 year difference at least the price.

I notice that Katsuragi currently has three similar plates as yours up on eBay. He describes them as Qing, but as always in the description mentions that he is not familiar with the dates of most Chinese porcelain. I tend to think of these as Qing, but I am not an expert and will leave it to others to decide.

George, thanks for the link. Yes, they certainly are the same plate. Notice the engraving, like my other Qing plate I posted a while back.
I certainly hope he gets some bids, $50 for three plates is a really good deal.

Starting bid for the three plates is good but his shipping is always high from Japan. I believe the scratched characters identify the owner. I’ve seen owner’s names even on Song bowls inside the foot rims.

Hi Ron,
I call them Tek Sing bowls, but of course not all are from the shipwreck. Those that are have matted glaze and usually the Nagel auction sticker like in the RM auction link. The ones offered from Japan are not from the shipwreck, the glaze is still shiny. 50 $ is a good price, but you might have to pay import tax. Ebay is full of these pieces and they are quite inexpensive
