I decided to take some pictures of the stand as well, as I think it was either Julia or Birgit who liked to see that. I think there is some chance that the stand might be japanese rather than chinese. BTW, the charger is 39cm, just to give you some idea about size.
It's from Yongzheng period.
I have a piece from this period. You can compare with it, no doubt.

Xin

Dear Michael,
then it is another story now. My opinion was based on your previous pictures, which was telling another story.
Look at the enlarged detail here attached. You should concur with what we see there: that type of bue is off for the period - the deer is black - the bamboo is black.
I am glad that actually the situation is completely different, making your dish ok for the period. But before the new pictures, it was not.
Often, pictures can fool as I said. That is the reason why I always accurately check the pictures before showing them on the net.
Regards,
Giovanni
I'm not really responsible for how you decide to interprete a picture, in what is basicly a "show-and-tell"-topic 🙂 You should also be aware that when images get shrunk, especially on a larger decorated object, they might not look exactly like they do when you have the item up and close and can look it over. Pretty much the same thing when you observe a painting at a distance and then up close afterwards. It is still the same painting, but it will look different.
That said, it gives me peace of mind that I know my stuff and that you agreed once you got sufficiently more information (in this case, more pictures).
I have quite a few other chinese imari and imari-verte pieces from this period, and I have to say that they are probably some of my favorite, and clearly a style within that period that I love (I have yet to add a good "milk and blood" piece to my collection).
Best wishes, and stay vigilant!
Michael

Dear Michael,
I am happy that your plate is ok and I am sorry if I caused some concern.
But, said that, I am pretty picky and I like to call things with the proper name.
It is not correct to say “I'm not really responsible for how you decide to interprete a picture”.
I am not interpreting at all. Without any doubt everybody here, if asked, by looking at the detail that I have shown will say that the deer is black and that the bamboo has the typical grayish black of that period.
It is not my interpretation. Can you honestly say if you see the deer in that picture (your picture) black or brown, as actually it is?
Just for matter of being precise.
Regards
Giovanni

Yes, I suppose that some will see black, and others will see dark brown. I normally value your opinion, but I still think that instead of the very confrontational tone that was apparant in your first reply, that there was no way it was chinese, was wrong. You should instead have asked for more detailed pictures and the specific areas you wanted to see. With great knowledge/power comes great responsibility.
It actually bothers me a great deal, because I just wanted to share something I cherished.

Dear Michael: ”….. I still think that instead of the very confrontational tone that was apparant in your first reply, that there was no way it was chinese, was wrong. You should instead have asked for more detailed pictures and the specific areas you wanted to see.”
It is exactly what I did. The first sentence of my first post has been: “Dear Michael M., can you post a picture of the back of your charger with the deer?”
After that, I said that in my opinion the plate was not Chinese. My opinion, based also on the black deer. You now say that you took that as “very confrontational tone”.
Well, I already said that I am sorry if my opinion caused you some concern. But at the same time, I am wondering why someone is posting a piece if his attitude is that of considering “very confrontational tone” a different opinion. This is a Forum of discussion, open to opinions if I am not wrong.
Besides, after having myself asked you two times what is obvious to everyone, i. e. that in your picture the deer is black and not brown, you are trying to mislead the answer by attributing it to interpretations, when with all evidence to anyone it is not the case. It seems that providing an honest answer is costing a big effort to you.
Said that, no problem, the case is closed to me; you surely will feel better in missing my opinions.
Best regards
Giovanni
Hi,
I understand giovanni's first doubts about the plate. Based a the first pictures, the colors and they way the border decorations were executed did look a bit strange.
I am happy people agree on its age now, after you were able to upload more pictures. Nice plate! Regards.
