Hey All, Can I get some opinions on this. I like it quite a bit, but would like some other opinions. I thought it to be fahua but It may be just relief decorated. I like the colors, and proper good soft flaws appear to be present. I don't like the dirty foot rim, because it makes it hard for me assess. It Looks like natural dirt that will remove to me, but the way they fake these foot rims makes me question. At any rate, may I get some educated opinions on this guy. Sorry about the crowded pics. They are not mine. They are the photos that I am viewing from the seller. Thanks, JT
Sorry, but I don't like it very much. It isn't elegant or attractive. It seems like the kind of thing someone has made thinking they know how something should look without realising that actually they don't.
Is it glazed inside? There are those odd patches on the corners of the base with crazing that remind me of Victorian pieces where water has got under the glaze or something like that.
I also don't feel confident when I see that type of black ring on a foot. That appears a far amount of 20th c copies albeit usually on the thinner foot rims of bowls.
I may be wrong about it, but even if it turns out to be m & p I won't like it any better! 😊 Is the seller asking a lot or making any claim as to when it was made?
The seller does not know what it is, nor its market value. The problem is, neither do I. I don't want to make an offer until I know a little more about it. If it is a genuine Repubiic piece, albiet archaistic, market value would be somewhat high would it not? JT
I have a Republic jar in Wang Bing Rong style with a similar bottom surface and very similar colors, that's what made me immediately think Republic. To me your vase doesn't look as ugly as to Julia but that's just my personal taste. I think if the surface was cleaned thoroughly with all the dirt removed from the nooks it would look much better. Also I like the unobtrusive way the mark was made, it looks authentic Republic and not later fake to me. But don't rely on my words, maybe Mark or someone else can give you his opinion.Worth, if Republic: a few hundred $.

Birgit, I very much admire the Wang Bing Rong style - I think you posted your jar on here ages ago, it was lovely! I was very jealous and have often been tempted to buy copies that were selling back where I used to live as they are just so appealing.
To me, this doesn't seem to be quite like those, the decoration seems sloppy, lacks definition and is not nicely positioned. I take what you mean about the mark, that is nicely unobtrusive.

Is the theme repeated? You have only shown two sides.
Personally I am with Julia on this one. It poorly done and looks to be particularly overly dirty.
The way the Phoenix and dragons are depicted are poor. That doesn't mean automatically that's its not republic period. Not all republic wares are top notch.
The mark looks good. But it's recessed. Is this normal or not, I don't know?
It's either a later republican period or a much more recent piece. The yellow is of concern here. Or perhaps it's the camera/lighting.
It is sort of a attribute of sorts to Wang but poor.
Perhaps if you could show us the interior.
Sorry I can't be of more help here. These particular Wang styled pieces are not my strong point.
